Director, Engineering - Customer Workflow
Heartflow is a medical technology company advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, the #1 cause of death worldwide, using cutting-edge technology. The flagship product—an AI-driven, non-invasive cardiac test supported by the ACC/AHA Chest Pain Guidelines called the Heartflow FFRCT Analysis—provides a color-coded, 3D model of a patient’s coronary arteries indicating the impact blockages have on blood flow to the heart. Heartflow is the first AI-driven non-invasive integrated heart care solution across the CCTA pathway that helps clinicians identify stenoses in the coronary arteries (RoadMap™Analysis), assess coronary blood flow (FFRCT Analysis), and characterize and quantify coronary atherosclerosis (Plaque Analysis). Our pipeline of products is growing and so is our team; join us in helping to revolutionize precision heartcare.
Heartflow is a VC-backed company that has received international recognition for exceptional strides in healthcare innovation, is supported by medical societies around the world, cleared for use in the US, UK, Europe, Japan and Canada, and has been used for more than 400,000 patients worldwide.
The Director, Engineering – Customer Workflow will lead several engineering teams responsible for Heartflow’s customer-facing workflow systems. - Hire, develop, and retain strong engineering and management talent; build an inclusive, high-performance team culture.
- Own the architecture and delivery of critical systems for image ingestion, data interoperability (DICOM, HL7, FHIR), and customer-facing workflow tools.
- Oversee the design and development of secure, scalable web applications that enable customers to request analyses and view interactive results.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Clinical, and Customer Success teams to shape features and solutions that address real-world clinical workflow needs.
- Ensure systems meet the requirements of privacy, security, and regulatory compliance, and follow best practices in deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
- Partner with peer engineering leaders to evolve shared architecture, tools, and best practices across the broader organization.
Skills Needed:
- Proven experience managing managers and leading multiple engineering teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Track record of successful planning, consistent execution, and on-time delivery of complex software projects.

- Familiarity with relevant technologies: Python, Django, FastAPI, JavaScript, TypeScript, Vue.js, SQL and noSQL databases.
- Deep understanding of healthcare interoperability standards (DICOM, HL7, FHIR) and integration with clinical systems (PACS, EMR).
- Excellent communication skills and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Experience working in regulated healthcare, medical devices, or similarly rigorous domains is highly desirable.
Educational Requirements & Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including developing and operating customer-facing systems.
- 5+ years in engineering leadership, with at least 3 years managing engineering managers and growing multi-team organizations.
- Experience delivering clinical or workflow solutions for healthcare providers is a strong plus.
