Support Care Medical Assistant – Job Description 

Employment Type: 1.0 Full Time, Non-Exempt 
Location: Lyndale Clinic or Rosedale/ Eagan Clinic
Shift Information: Variable, Monday – Friday, 9-hour shifts with an hour lunch 
Compensation: Starting at $22.00, dependent on experience

About the Support Primary Care Medical Assistant Role 

The Support Medical Assistant will provide clinical, clerical, and technical support across multiple Herself Health clinic locations. This role is essential in maintaining smooth clinic operations and ensuring high-quality care for our patients. The Float/Lab Medical Assistant will support the clinical team by covering staffing needs, performing lab-related duties, and contributing to outstanding patient care and outcomes.

Core Responsibilities 

Float Responsibilities:  

  • Provide coverage across multiple clinic locations based on staffing needs
  • Adapt quickly to new clinic environments and workflows
  • Collaborate with clinic teams to ensure seamless patient care during transitions 

Lab Responsibilities:  

  • Ownership of main lab duties - ie - billing verification; completion of billing trailers in Quest
  • Conducts assigned clinic monthly lab audits
  • Perform venipuncture and obtain blood samples for lab testing
  • Prepare, label, and process specimens for transport to external laboratories
  • Perform in-house point-of-care lab testing, processing, and resulting
  • Ensure proper documentation and tracking of lab orders and results in the EMR
  • Maintain and organize lab equipment and supplies, ensuring compliance with safety standards 

General Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manage all OOO provider staff inboxes for daily assigned clinic
  • Room patients efficiently while modeling “customer service first” values
  • Measure and record patient vital signs and update EMR records
  • Assist providers with exams, procedures, and medical treatments as needed
  • Administer IM injectables and medications as ordered
  • Schedule patient appointments and assist with portal setup and patient education
  • Support chronic disease management and population health initiatives, including outreach to patients for follow-up care
  • Administer diagnostic testing; example EKG
  • Transmit prescription refills and manage inventory of medical supplies
  • Clean and disinfect examination rooms following patient visits 

Core Qualifications 

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Certification program is required
  • Training in phlebotomy is required
  • Flexibility to travel between clinic locations as needed
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work effectively in an innovative, fast-paced environment
  • Passage of the pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Eligibility to work in the US with proof of citizenship or permanent residency
