Role Summary:
The Configuration Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining configuration management practices that ensure product definition integrity, traceability, and controlled change throughout the product lifecycle. This role partners closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Program Management to manage product data, documenta on, and revisions in alignment with operational and regulatory requirements.The Configuration Manager also leads the coordination and execution of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), ensuring that cross-functional implementation plans are developed, tracked, and completed across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality functions. This role drives visibility and accountability for change implementation to ensure product configurations remain accurate and aligned throughout production. In addition, the Configuration Manager supports the effective use of enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, MES, PLM) as tools for configuration control and serves as a functional super user for ERP-related configuration processes. This includes supporting system implementation, process adoption, and user training to ensure consistent and effective use of product data and change management workflows. This hands-on role ensures that product structures, changes, and records remain accurate, auditable, and aligned with engineering intent as the organization scales.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Own site-level configuration management strategy and processes, including bills of materials (BOMs), document control, part naming conventions, and revision management
  • Administer and coordinate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), deviations, waivers, and lifecycle transitions
  • Track ECO implementation status, drive closure of action items, and ensure timely completion of change activities
  • Ensure complete traceability of product configurations from design through production and delivery
  • Maintain alignment between engineering documentation and released manufacturing configurations
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of item masters, part attributes, routings, and related product data across systems
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between engineering outputs and operational data
  • Support audit readiness by maintaining complete and accurate configuration records
  • Partner with Engineering to translate design outputs into manufacturable configurations
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Procurement to ensure configuration alignment across functions
  • Facilitate communication of approved changes and their operational impacts
  • Support new product introductions and design transfers into production
  • Serve as a resident super user and functional subject matter expert for ERP and related enterprise systems supporting configuration and product data management
  • Support configuration of product structures, workflows, and change processes within ERP, MES, PLM, or other business systems
  • Assist with ERP implementation, rollout, and continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering and manufacturing data
  • Collaborate with IT, system owners, and vendors on enhancements affecting configuration control
  • Develop and deliver training, documenta on, and user support for ERP configuration management processes
  • Provide guidance to cross-functional teams on best practices for system usage related to config control
  • Develop and refine configuration management procedures, standards, and work instructions
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, visibility, and compliance of change processes
  • Support preparation for internal and external audits
  • Contribute to scalable practices as the organization grows
  • Support development of configuration management capabilities as the function expands
  • Provide guidance to junior staff or cross-functional contributors as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  Qualifications & Experience:
    Required:

  • High school diploma
  • 8–12+ years of experience in configuration management, engineering operations, or manufacturing environments
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing product data and engineering changes in complex mfg settings
  • Deep understanding of BOM structures, product lifecycles, revision control, and traceability
  • Experience administering ECO processes and maintaining configuration baselines
  • Familiarity with PLM, ERP, or MES systems as tools supporting configuration management
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality management frameworks
  • Understanding of documenta on control and audit expectations
  • Strong cross-functional partnering skills across engineering and operations teams
  • Ability to communicate complex configuration issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced environments
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive in identifying risks related to product definition and data integrity
  • Able to drive structured processes while remaining adaptable
  • Experience working with ERP, MES, or PLM platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Agile, Teamcenter, Arena, etc.)
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills preferred

    Preferred:

  • Preferred Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Information Systems, Business, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of formal education
  • Formal training or certification in Configuration Management (e.g., CMII, CMPIC)
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) or production ramp-up
  • Familiarity with ITAR/EAR environments
  • Project management training or certification (e.g., PMP) a plus
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required

Salary Range:

$110,000 - $145,000 USD
