Role Overview
The security manager, working closely with Brown University DPS will be responsible for managing and overseeing the security of BRH, ensuring that all personnel and assets are protected from threats. This individual will be responsible for implementing and developing security policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and monitoring security operations and working with relevant third parties within Brown University and beyond.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee daily security operations at BRH.
- Work with BRH and DPS to to develop, implement, and maintain security policies and procedures
- Follow the strategic model put in place by DPS and attend meetings and/or briefings, as needed
- Monitor compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Investigate security breaches and recommend corrective action
- Oversee and monitor other security personnel
- Manage security contractors and vendors
- Serve as the primary security contact for students, faculty, and staff
- Monitor entry security procedures, access control, and emergency response protocols
- Coordinate, schedule security trainings
- Maintain accurate records of security operations
- Provide regular security updates to both Hillel and DPS leadership
- Be present, visible and familiar to and of the people who regularly use the facility
- Main point of contact for NSGP administration and implementation
- Liaise with relevant departments and authorities within Brown University
- Liaise with law enforcement and other relevant authorities
On a day to day basis you will
- Greet and monitor all who enter the building
- Monitor security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control)
- Meet with Operations to discuss daily schedule of events
- Inspect packages and materials that enter the building
- Respond to incidents or breaches, identify potential security threats and vulnerabilities
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities
- Report any building issues to Facilities or to the appropriate department
- Scheduling and supervising
- Conduct training on security protocols and emergency procedures, etc.
- Communicate any necessary information to DPS, BRH, security personnel or other Brown University administrators
- Conduct security drills and audits as recommended by DPS & State of RI
- Document incidents and accruing reports from team members
What You’ve Accomplished
- Demonstrated experience in security management, law enforcement, or a related field, ideally within an educational, nonprofit, or faith-based setting.
- Successfully implemented security protocols, procedures, and systems that improved safety and emergency preparedness.
- Led or collaborated with multi-agency security operations, showing the ability to build strong relationships with law enforcement or campus safety departments.
- Investigated and responded to safety incidents or breaches with sound judgment, professionalism, and appropriate documentation.
- Trained staff and stakeholders in emergency response, access control, and general safety procedures.
- Managed security personnel or vendors, creating an accountable and responsive team culture.
- Maintained compliance with legal, regulatory, and institutional safety requirements.

- Familiarity with or willingness to learn the culture and rhythms of Jewish life and a pluralistic Hillel environment.
- A collaborative spirit—ready to partner with Brown DPS, university administration, and other key stakeholders.
- Comfort using and monitoring security technology (CCTV, alarm systems, access control systems)
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed for special events or emergency response.
What You’ll Receive
- Full-time annual salary range of $70,000 - $80,000.
