Director of Planning
Position Overview
Hill House Home is a fast-growing, customer-centric lifestyle brand offering thoughtfully designed fashion, home, and accessories. We are known for our signature aesthetic, high-quality craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of our customers’ needs. As we scale, we are looking for a Director of Planning to lead our merchandise planning and inventory strategy, ensuring optimal product availability, profitability, and business growth.
The Director of Planning will be responsible for developing and executing financial, merchandise, and inventory plans that support Hill House Home’s revenue and margin goals. This role will lead strategic forecasting, assortment planning, and inventory management across E-Commerce, Retail, Wholesale, and Dropship channels. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying opportunities to optimize sales, inventory efficiency, and margin performance. This role is based in our NYC corporate office (3 days in office.)
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Merchandise Planning
- Develop and own top-line sales, margin, and inventory plans by channel, category, and SKU to support company growth objectives.
- Partner with Merchandising to build strategic assortment plans aligned with sales targets and customer demand.
- Drive seasonal and annual forecasting processes, ensuring financial targets are met.
- Analyze sell-through, markdowns, and replenishment strategies to maximize profitability.
- Partner with Finance to track and manage open-to-buy (OTB) budgets.
Inventory Management & Optimization
- Develop strategies to optimize stock levels, minimizing excess inventory and stockouts
- Lead demand planning and allocation across E-Commerce, Retail, Wholesale, and Dropship channels.
- Oversee replenishment strategies, ensuring alignment with demand trends and promotional activity.
- Monitor inventory health, aging stock, and liquidation strategies.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Reporting
- Deliver comprehensive weekly, monthly, and seasonal performance reports on sales, inventory performance, and financial results to senior leadership, providing actionable insights on trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Partner with Finance, Merchandising, Product Development, Ecommerce, Retail, and Operations teams to develop strategies that drive performance across all channels.
- Analyze historical sales, category performance, and customer insights to inform future buys.
- Monitor competitor and industry trends to adjust planning strategies as needed.
- Communicate planning goals and updates to cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment and timely execution of business strategies.
- Support the integration of new technologies and processes to enhance forecast accuracy and operational efficiency.
Business & Financial Strategy
- Drive the development of sales, margin, promotional, and inventory forecasts to meet business goals.
- Evaluate and refine planning processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in meeting financial targets.
- Proactively identify and recommend changes to improve the planning process, inventory management, and business performance.
Qualifications
- 8-10+ years of experience in merchandise planning, inventory management, or a related field, preferably in women’s fashion
- Strong financial acumen with expertise in forecasting, OTB management, and sales analysis.
- Deep understanding of E-Commerce, Retail, and Wholesale inventory dynamics.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and analytics tools (experience Looker, or other BI tools a plus).
- Expertise in retail math, forecasting, and demand planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present and influence senior leadership.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale planning projects and driving cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong understanding of inventory management, demand planning, and replenishment strategies.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, with a focus on results and continuous improvement.
- Salary range: $150,000+
Compensation for the role will be determined based candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience.
