Design Engineer

Bucharest, Romania

About us

In The Pocket is a leading European digital product studio. We are a complete delivery organisation that defines, designs & ships digital products, strategies and software. We’re a lively bunch that’s up for any challenge: global cloud-based platforms, large audience apps, medical devices, banking software, augmented reality and much, much more. As long as it lives and breathes digital.

Job-specific introduction

As a Design Engineer at In The Pocket, you work at the intersection of design and engineering, crafting intuitive and delightful digital experiences. You possess strong design skills combined with expertise in front-end engineering, enabling you to translate user needs into scalable and accessible products. From prototyping to maintaining a large design system, you can delve deep into crafting detailed interactions while writing clean, maintainable code in your preferred front-end framework (React, Flutter, SwiftUI, etc.). You’ll also need awareness of technical feasibility, but this does not limit your design process.

A key aspect of the role involves experimentation with diverse design tools, low-code platforms, and code editors to optimize your workflow. You’re adaptable and can quickly learn new frameworks. You will of course not do this work on your own, but in a multidisciplinary team with other design engineers, product designers, engineers or product managers.

What you’ll do?

  • Your main goal is to design and build delightful and enjoyable user interfaces for web and mobile applications, ranging from completely new MVPs to mature products.
  • You'll work in a multidisciplinary team where you are responsible for both the design and front-end of a product. Your tasks will vary: one day you’ll design user flows, the other day you’ll code new components or update the design system with the latest tokens.
  • You will work together with product managers, product designers and engineers where your responsibilities can adapt based on the team setup.
  • As a designer, you will create new designs, animations or visuals based on existing wireframes and brand guidelines. You can prototype your ideas into something tangible that reflects the actual user experience.
  • As an engineer, you will build those prototypes in reusable code, help maintain the design system, create components, improve existing features, or build the front-end of new user flows.
  • You will contribute to our way of working, by exploring and sharing new tools or process improvements. From testing new low-code tools, to building a Figma plugin, or improving your workflow with AI.
  • You will be coached by other design engineers and have access to a design layer and fellow engineers for support.

Who you are?

  • At least 3 years of experience in Digital Product Design, UX/UI Design or Web/Software development.
  • A good understanding of both design and engineering principles.
  • You express yourself, your ideas and your work fluently in English.
  • Skilled in working with common design tools (Figma, Sketch, ...), no/low-code tools (Webflow, Framer, FlutterFlow, ...) and code editors (VSCode, Cursor, Xcode, Android Studio, ...)
  • You know how to design, build and maintain design systems.
  • You can write clean, readable and maintainable code while applying best practices and patterns.
  • You know the different levels of code quality to apply for the different type of needs.
  • You are familiar with accessibility best practices.
  • You are able to prioritise as you will work on multiple projects and tasks at once.
  • You know how and when to apply AI tools to improve your work (image or code generation, learning new skills, understanding existing code, ...).
  • You are detail oriented to make sure the interface is polished and refined.
  • You have technical expertise, design sensibility and user empathy.
  • You can prototype and iterate quickly to be able to adapt and refine your work.
  • You can collaborate with other designers and engineers by providing design feedback, conducting code reviews, sharing knowledge, and ensuring consistency.
  • You are adept at selecting the right tool for the task, whether it’s a low-code platform, generative AI for initial code drafts based on the design or writing the code yourself.

What do we offer you?

At ITP, we believe in building long-term, meaningful careers—so here’s what you can expect when you join us:

  • A full-time, permanent contract from day one, in a role where you’ll be trusted with real responsibility and impact.
  • A competitive salary, aligned with your experience and skills—not just your years on paper.
  • A comprehensive benefits package including hospitalization insurance, group insurance, meal vouchers, and more.
  • An annual company bonus, based on overall team and company performance.
  • Plenty of team events throughout the year—because work should also be fun and social.
  • Continuous learning and development: each team member receives a yearly L&D budget (plus 3 extra days off to use for study, certifications, or conferences) so you can keep growing.
  • Access to our in-house library, filled with books you can borrow (physically or digitally) to support both your personal and professional development.

What do we value?
