I. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION |

The Estimator is responsible for working both independently and collaboratively (with executive management and project teams) to estimate project costs for firm fixed-price bids, proposals and change orders. The Estimator’s job is to leverage field experience, industry knowledge and solid analytical skills to prepare accurate quantity take-offs. Fundamental to this role is the ability to make sound assumptions and identify gaps in construction documents.
II. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS |
- College degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other related field (or equivalent years’ experience).
- Experience within Quotesoft estimating software is a plus.
III. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Perform detailed project cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades.
- Estimate labor and material costs.
- Solicit quotes from subcontractors and vendors.
- Review Drawings, Specifications and Addendums.
- Receive, analyze, and complete bid comparisons.
- Attend Site Walkthroughs and assess existing conditions.
- Participate in bid analysis, prepare final bids and requests for proposals.
- Qualify and level subcontractors’ proposals according to project specifications.
- Review and handle bid documents.
- Track bid advertisements.
- Maintain logs.
- Develop data bases and directories.
- Assist in maintaining project sub bidders contact list.
- Communicate with owners, engineers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Assist in setting up and getting projects started where we are the low bidder.
- Coordinate administrative staff in sending documents to vendors.
- Interact with clients, architects, engineers and Local Jurisdictions to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, costs, etc.
- Assist with MWDBE plan development, plan execution and continual compliance.
- Perform other duties assigned.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS OF THE POSITION |
- 5-10 years of experience in the heavy mechanical industry.
- Project management and field experience is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency in basic engineering computations and analysis.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings.
- Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience with estimating software.
- Ability to organize and prioritize.
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, and computer skills.
- Knowledge of CMiC software is a plus.
- Must be safety oriented.
