Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a Sr. LabView Engineer specializing in Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) to lead development and deployment of automation and control systems for R&D test platforms. This individual will be a subject matter expert in I&C design, test execution, and modeling across high-complexity systems supporting KP-FHR development. 

This role demands deep expertise in I&C engineering, a proven track record of success in complex R&D environments, and a demonstrated ability to lead multi-phase technical efforts with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will play a central role in cross-functional team leadership, model-based control strategy development, and institutional knowledge sharing. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and development of LabVIEW-based control and data acquisition systems for complex test environments.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of test and instrumentation systems, from requirements definition through commissioning and operation.
  • Specify, integrate, and validate sensors, DAQ hardware, and control interfaces to meet system and test objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership for instrumentation and control systems, ensuring robustness, scalability, and data quality.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of test systems in collaboration with engineers and technicians.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for test controls and data acquisition during major test campaigns.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians in LabVIEW development, instrumentation practices, and system integration.
  • Drive continuous improvement of test infrastructure, including architecture, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead design reviews and ensure systems meet functional, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align test systems with evolving design and program needs. 

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience (or MS with 8+ years). 
  • Experience developing LabVIEW-based control or data acquisition systems in test, prototype, or R&D environments.
  • Exposure to high-reliability and regulated industries (e.g., nuclear, aerospace, automotive). 
  • Strong experience with DAQ systems, sensor integration, and test automation. 
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, including system ownership and mentoring of junior engineers. 
  • Ability to operate independently and lead multidisciplinary efforts

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Expert proficiency in LabVIEW and test system architecture. 
  • Deep understanding of data acquisition systems, instrumentation, and control concepts. 
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, controls, and integrated test systems. 
  • Ability to lead system-level design decisions and trade studies
  • Experience building and scaling reliable test infrastructure in dynamic R&D environments. 
  • Strong mentorship, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in test operations.

Safety and PPE

  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes

Travel

  • Some travel may be required, up to 10%

Certification 

  • Electrical Engineering (EE) Professional Engineering license is a plus but not required

  • Requires occasional working weekends 
  • Requires occasional schedule flexibility
  • Requires occasional extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines

The salary range for this position is $140,600 to $165,400 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California. Factors that maybe used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, ability and the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
