THE ROLE

The Strategy & Business Operations Lead reports directly to the CFO and plays a critical role in driving strategic alignment and operational excellence across Khan Academy. You’ll work closely with the senior leadership team (SLT), CEO, and Board to ensure strong planning, effective execution, and a clear focus on priorities that help us achieve our mission.

This role is a unique mix of strategy, operations, and cross-functional collaboration—and is ideal for someone who loves working across big-picture vision and tactical execution.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Khan Academy is looking for a Strategy & Business Operations Lead with excellent strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder management skills that can help drive the forward momentum of our passionate team. The Strategy & Business Operations Lead will serve as a key support for the SLT by identifying and deploying impactful strategies and processes that enable the organization to perform effectively and scale efficiently. As Strategy & Business Operations Lead, your work will be varied, challenging and impactful. You will: 

  • Provide thought partnership to the SLT on organizational, programmatic, and operational strategy
  • Lead and continuously improve our annual planning process, ensuring clarity of goals and cross-functional alignment
  • Strengthen organizational systems and processes for goal-setting, decision-making, and accountability
  • Monitor progress on org-wide OKRs and identify risks or areas that need support
  • Shape the SLT’s operational cadence, ensuring timely decision-making and strategic focus
  • Partner with the CEO and Board Chair to coordinate board meetings, prepare materials, and track follow-ups
  • Lead ad-hoc strategic projects related to growth and organizational effectiveness 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 10+ years of experience, with at least 5+ years in strategic planning, business operations, or related fields (e.g., consulting, bizops) and 2+ years of experience managing teams 
  • A strong track record of driving cross-functional initiatives and aligning stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; able to turn insights into action
  • Comfort working autonomously and proactively owning projects from start to finish
  • A collaborative, low-ego attitude and a willingness to dive into strategic and tactical work
  • Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships with professionalism and sound judgment
  • High discretion when handling confidential materials and conversations
  • Bonus: Experience in technology or edtech

The target salary range for this position is $151,200-232,000 USD / $204,318 - $313,504 CAD. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The salary offered will depend on internal pay equity and the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data. Exceptional performers in this role who make an outsized contribution can make well in excess of this range.  Additional incentives are provided as part of the complete total rewards package in addition to comprehensive medical and other benefits.
