Legal Services NYC (LSNYC) fights poverty and seeks racial, social and economic justice for low-income New Yorkers. For over 50 years, we have challenged systemic injustices that trap people in poverty and provided legal services that help our clients meet basic needs for housing, income and economic security, family and immigration stability, education, and health care. LSNYC is the largest civil legal services provider in the country; our staff of more than 600 people in neighborhood-based offices and outreach sites across all five boroughs helps hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers annually. MANHATTAN LEGAL SERVICES SEEKS DIRECTOR OF INTAKE, HOUSING UNIT
Manhattan Legal Services seeks a Director of Intake for its Housing Unit. We are looking for candidates who are excited to work in a fast-paced environment and to use creative strategies and collaborations to support the work of the office.
The Director of Intake will be responsible for supervising intake staff of our Housing Unit and managing the complex intake process for our Housing Unit. Our Housing Unit conducts intakes for referrals directly from the courthouse through the Right to Counsel for eviction defense in NYC. Additionally, our Tenant Rights’ Coalition project regularly conducts intake for groups of tenants and tenant associations for potential building-wide or portfolio-wide litigation.
Responsibilities include:
- Directly supervising the intake staff of the Housing Unit;
- Leading hiring and training of new intake staff and assisting with orientation of staff;
- Coordinating ongoing training of intake staff, with an emphasis on professional development and growth for the staff members;
- Overseeing the intake processes and evaluating the accessibility and effectiveness of intake systems, including the creation and maintenance of an intake manual;
- Coordinating intake schedules, and calendar to ensure adequate coverage at offices and off-site locations;
- Working with the Director of Grants and Contracts to develop and adapt intake systems to ensure compliance with reporting requirements for grants and contracts.
- Working with Citywide Director of Intake Services to ensure compliance with citywide intake protocols and requirements.
The Director of Intake reports directly to the Housing Unit’s Director.
Qualifications Include:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work with people;
- Excellent problem-solving skills;
- The ability to manage multiple tasks with efficiency;
- The ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees and clients;
- Experience analyzing process flows, recommending and implementing changes to achieve objectives and improve outcomes;
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with technical proficiency (a solid knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Prior non-profit or legal services experience is strongly preferred;
- Prior supervision experience is preferred;
- Prior experience with legal case management systems such as Legal Server is preferred
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging;
- Flexibility and a willingness to pitch in where needed;

Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is a management position. Staff members who are not managers are members of the LSSA/NOLSW UAW Local 2320 Union.

Salary Range
$78,370 - $120,788 USD
