Lab Manager, Global MSAT Automation

Somerset, New Jersey, United States

Legend Biotech is a global biotechnology company dedicated to treating, and one day curing, life-threatening diseases. Headquartered in Somerset, New Jersey, we are developing advanced cell therapies across a diverse array of technology platforms, including autologous and allogenic chimeric antigen receptor T-cell, T-cell receptor (TCR-T), and natural killer (NK) cell-based immunotherapy. From our three R&D sites around the world, we apply these innovative technologies to pursue the discovery of safe, efficacious and cutting-edge therapeutics for patients worldwide.

Legend Biotech entered into a global collaboration agreement with Janssen, one of the pharmaceutical companies of Johnson & Johnson, to jointly develop and commercialize ciltacabtagene autolecuel (cilta-cel). Our strategic partnership is designed to combine the strengths and expertise of both companies to advance the promise of an immunotherapy in the treatment of multiple myeloma.

Legend Biotech is seeking a Lab Manager as part of the Global MSAT Automation team based in Somerset, NJ.

Role Overview

The Lab Manager will lead the end-to-end management of lab supplies, cold storage inventory, and ordering processes in our dynamic cell therapy manufacturing environment. In this critical role, you will ensure reliable availability of perishable
materials (reagents, biologics, and consumables with 2–3-month shelf lives) while optimizing limited cold storage space, minimizing waste through FEFO (First Expired, First Out) practices, and implementing real-time tracking and collaborative forecasting. You will leverage modern lab inventory software (such as Quartzy, Labguru, LabCollector, Scispot, or equivalent) with barcoding and order-request workflows to support a fast-paced, variable-demand team. This position requires strong GMP/cGMP experience in cell therapy manufacturing to maintain compliance, quality, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inventory & Cold Storage Management: Oversee receiving, storage, organization, and rotation of all cold-chain materials in limited-space environments. Implement and enforce FEFO protocols, expiry tracking, low-stock alerts, and regular audits to reduce waste and prevent stockouts.
  • Ordering & Procurement: Manage the full ordering lifecycle using designated lab inventory platforms (SAP, Quartzy, Labguru, LabCollector, Scispot, or similar). Process team-submitted material order requests, track shipments, onboard new vendors, contracts, and MTAs.
  • Digital Systems & Tracking: Maintain and optimize inventory software workflows, including barcoding/QR scanning for all SKUs, real-time usage logging, location mapping, and automated alerts for expiry, low stock, or reorder points. Train and
support the dynamic team on system usage for seamless request submission and consumption tracking.
  • Collaborative Forecasting: Work directly with research and manufacturing teams to gather forward-looking demand signals (via weekly huddles, shared dashboards, or request forms) rather than historical data. Develop rolling 4–8-week forecasts to align supply with team needs and upcoming projects.
  • Leadership & Training: Lead by example in a dynamic environment; train lab staff on inventory best practices, software tools, and safety protocols. Foster crossfunctional collaboration to integrate supply management with cell processing, expansion, and incoming workflows.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize space utilization, reduce costs, and improve turnaround on orders. Conduct periodic reviews of supplier performance and recommend process or tool enhancements.
  • Reporting: Generate inventory reports, usage trends, and key metrics (e.g., waste rates, on-time fulfillment) for leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field (master’s preferred).
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in cell therapy manufacturing or GMP biologics/cell processing environments (CAR-T, stem cell, or autologous/allogeneic therapies strongly preferred).
  • Proven experience managing lab supplies, perishables, and cold storage inventory in a regulated setting.
  • Direct proficiency with SAP and at least one modern lab inventory/ordering platform such as Quartzy, Labguru, LabCollector, Scispot, or equivalent — including barcoding, order requests, expiry alerts, and FEFO workflows.
  • Strong understanding of cold-chain logistics, short-shelf-life materials, and limited space optimization.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills to thrive with dynamic, cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience implementing or optimizing digital inventory systems in a scaling lab or manufacturing facility.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or inventory best practices (e.g., ordering, safety, stock calculations for variable demand).
  • Prior materials supervisory or training experience.
