Goal of This Role

The AI Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing Agentic AI systems that enable Lucid Bots to achieve groundbreaking autonomy. You will design and deploy intelligent systems that allow our robots to perceive, reason, act, and learn in a continuous loop, advancing the boundaries of robotics innovation. As part of this critical role, the AI Engineer will have the unique opportunity to work directly alongside the Founder/CEO, contributing to high-level strategic decisions and shaping the future of Lucid Bots' AI initiatives.

This role is critical for accelerating our AI initiatives and enabling our bots to perform physical tasks autonomously. The AI Engineer will work primarily on model development and training, leveraging open-source frameworks and robust infrastructure provided by AWS and other tools.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the development of physical AI systems that enable Lucid Bots to perceive, reason, act, and learn autonomously.
  • Collaborate closely with robotics engineers and software developers to integrate AI capabilities seamlessly into hardware and software ecosystems.
  • Optimize machine learning models for efficiency, scalability, and deployment in real-world robotic environments.
  • Leverage open-source vision, language, decision-making, and multimodal models to build high-performance AI solutions for robotics and autonomous systems.
  • Utilize cloud infrastructure tools, such as AWS, for data processing, model training, and deployment.
  • Stay updated on cutting-edge AI technologies and quickly adapt to new advancements to maintain innovation.
  • Document technical progress and communicate findings effectively with leadership to inform strategic decisions.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Advanced proficiency in Python as a core programming language for AI development.
  • Proven experience with training machine learning models using large datasets—robotics experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms like PPO and SAC.
  • Experience with model quantization for efficient edge deployment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages like C++ is a plus.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA Isaac ecosystem and Omniverse is desirable.
  • Self-starter with a passion for solving cutting-edge problems in AI and robotics.
  • Ability to understand and adopt new technologies rapidly to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Robotics, or a related field (preferred).

Additional Notes

This role is flexible regarding location but requires consistent collaboration with the Charlotte-based team. The AI Engineer will primarily focus on software and models rather than direct interaction with hardware in the early stages. As the next generation of hardware is developed, opportunities to implement these models in physical systems will emerge.
