The Role: Seasonal Machine Operator Level 2
Reporting to the Room Manager, the Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, tearing down, cleaning, operating, preventative maintenance and performing minor service to various pieces of production machinery. We will provide training of the machine to ensure you are fully up to speed! What You Do (Responsibilities):
- Understand and demonstrate safe working practices and address any area of concern to Room Management when necessary
- Communicate with and train staff to follow machine SOPs
- Maintain and update machine SOPs when required
- Execute set-ups, adjustments, disassembly, routine cleaning and preventative maintenance of all machines used
- Perform production processes such as: packing, pouring, pressing, unmolding, glittering, wrapping, ribboning and labelling duties
- Set-up and stage materials, molds, and equipment needed for production purposes
- Carry out duties effectively and efficiently to positively impact KPIs (fulfillment, material variance, safety stock, etc.) and ensure agreed upon daily targets are achieved
- Perform general housekeeping and equipment maintenance duties
- Supports new or returning staff as required with onboarding, demonstrations of daily duties and responsibilities while ensuring safety and SOP guidelines are being followed
- Adhere to all Sustainability best practices (recycling, composting and waste management/reduction procedures)
- Understand the importance of and accurately count product inventory when required
- Support production related duties as required based on manufacturing demand
Production Assistant Responsibilities, also to be abided by Machine Operators:
- Manage transportation portfolio by ensuring financial and operational performance are in line with company objectives
- Practice safe work and identify any unsafe situations that may arise to the appropriate individuals
- Meet and achieve your daily goals consistently
- Fluid and flexible to continuous improvement changes within the room/department
- Follow packing and shipping instructions according to department guidelines
- Keep up with department demands with fluidity and flexibility and ability to move to other rooms as required
- Supporting peers with daily duties and responsibilities while ensuring safety and SOP guidelines are being followed
- Adhere to company and departmental policies and best practices for quality, cleanliness and health and safety
- Carry out general housekeeping and equipment cleaning duties as required
- Encourage and maintain a positive, respectful, and engaging workplace
- Respect and promote inclusion and diversity in the workplace
- Represent the ethics and culture of the Lush brand and follow all policies and procedures
- Steel-toed boots must be worn at all times on our production/distribution floors
- Support the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) policies as needed and prepare and monitor all required documentation
- Proactively shifts expertise to support all roles within the site, including covering absenteeism and production increase requirements as needed
- Assist in producing high quality Lush products
- Perform dexterous tasks including but not limited to: Filling, pouring, and pressing product accurately (either manually or with use of department-specific machinery)
- Pack product and correctly label packages
- Keep up with production demands and productivity targets
- Perform physically labourious tasks including but not limited to; loading/pulling skids, pushing racks, carrying bins of product
- Consistently meet the hourly PPH (Pieces Per Hour) requirements specific to your department
Who You Are (Qualifications):
Required:
- Familiar with Lock Out / Tag out practices
- Health and safety competency
- Technical Aptitude: familiarity with mechanics/machine processes, pneumatic and basic PLC controls
- Able to troubleshoot and resolve stops on machinery
- Able to perform all required Production Assistant duties/responsibilities
- Able to communicate effectively with others and work well in both individual and team environments
- Able to provide information to help improve processes and how to improve workflow
- Able to operate beginner and advanced production equipment (ie. Labelling line, Vemag)
- Able to do physical work for 8-hour shifts, be on your feet either standing or walking throughout the shift, and feel able to lift up to 50 pounds without any restrictions
- Capable of completing physical activities such as bending down, pulling, and pushing throughout the shift without any restrictions
- Comfortable with reading, writing, and speaking English in order to communicate with peers and leadership on all platforms (i.e. in person, via email, via Google/Teams chat)
- Flexibility to work within the Distribution, Digital and Manufacturing businesses as required
- Confident with basic mathematics, ability to count, including addition and subtraction
- Reliable, consistent attendance, punctual and dependable
- Commitment to abide by and oversee good quality and good manufacturing practices
- Commitment to abide by and oversee health & safety regulations
Preferred:
- Experience working at Lush Cosmetics, preferably in Manufacturing/Distribution
- Experience successfully completing Lock Out / Tag out practices
- Secondary school diploma or relevant work experience in a trade or machine operator
- Previous experience working with a Label Line machine or machine of similar complexity
- Experience in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, warehousing, supply chain and/or food industries
- Previous Lush experience as a Seasonal Machine Operator
- Previous experience working in a variety of manufacturing rooms
- Technical qualification/certification or mechanical aptitude
- Flexible to work mornings, afternoons, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime as needed
