CEI Inspector I
About the Position
We are seeking CEI Inspector I candidates who will provide Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) services for transportation projects located in the state of Georgia.
This posting is for future, long-term, onsite CEI Inspector I positions located in the greater Atlanta, GA, area or potentially other areas around the state.
Responsibilities
- Will perform independent complex inspections of roadways and structure, construction processes, and materials to assure compliance with the construction contract.
- Will perform moderately complex inspections or supervise other inspectors conducting routine and standardized inspections.
- Work includes inspecting asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and mix; pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment and compaction; roadways and structures for conformance to plans, and specifications; structural materials and members; placement of culverts; structural operations such as foundation excavation; placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill; and traffic control and erosion control devices.
- May also perform the more complex variety of calculations and computations.
- Will perform contract documentation duties, which include field measurements of pay items as well as other Department required documentation.

Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1.5+ years’ experience working as a CEI Inspector Aide.
- Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.)
- Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
- Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers.
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports.
- Ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.
- Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.
Required Certifications
- Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 1 (General Provisions, Auxiliary Items, Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading).
- Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 2 (Pavements, Bases, Subbases, Minor Drainage Structures, Construction Erosion Control).
- GDOT WECS.
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
- GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).
Certifications from other agencies or states may possibly be substituted.
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for these roles is $52-62K annually ($25-30/hr.) The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidate’s level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
