Geotechnical Field Engineer
About the Position
We’re seeking a Geotechnical Field Engineer to support large, complex heavy civil infrastructure programs, including highways, roads, bridges, transit (bus and rail), aviation (international airports), and water/wastewater projects delivered through both traditional and alternative delivery methods. In this role, you will support field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations; the design and development of plans and specifications; and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided.
This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position located in Atlanta, GA.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Operating and maintaining geotechnical testing equipment.
- Classifying soil, rock, and geological samples obtained from drilling operations.
- Assisting in developing the scope and budget of work for routine projects.
- Analyzing data, performing engineering calculations and analysis, and reporting data to clients under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
- Interacting with the client and project team.
- Following safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geographic Information Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1+ years’ experience as a Geotechnical Field Engineer in support of large, complex, heavy-civil infrastructure or transportation programs.
- Experience with industry standard project / construction management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Unifier, Kahua, etc.).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geographic Information Science.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
- Familiarity or proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or other dashboard KPI reporting software.
Compensation Details
Expected Salary: $72k-$85k/year ($35-$41/hour). Luster provides the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might offer for this position based on the successful candidate’s level and years of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, certifications, licenses, geographic location, etc. Luster reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range depending on circumstances not related to any status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
