DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY | JOB DESCRIPTION 

SUMMARY

At Magnolia, The Director of Technology will be responsible for leading the development, optimization, and implementation of technology solutions for our e-commerce platform to support the strategies set by leadership. You will oversee a team of engineers, developers, and tech professionals to drive innovation, ensure operational excellence, and deliver scalable, efficient solutions that support business growth. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of e-commerce trends, strong technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives. You will be a key participant in enhancing the customer experience, optimizing product features, and scaling our e-commerce operations. The primary technologies Director of Technology will steward include Azure, Google Suite, NetSuite, Salesforce, Shopify, on both Mac and Windows platforms. This position works from Magnolia Headquarters in Waco, Texas. It reports to the Vice President of Technology and Supply Chain and has supervisory responsibilities. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Create and maintain business relationships with company leadership to align technology resources 
  • Establish and support cross-functional relationships across the organization to strategize and prioritize technology support for organizational goals* 
  • Translate business needs into cost-effective and efficient technology solutions. Develop and prioritize multi-year roadmap for the e-commerce platform and related products, balancing short-term business needs with long-term strategic objectives. 
  • Architect, design, implement, support, and evaluate information technology solutions to meet business needs* Oversee the continuous development, integration, and optimization of the e-commerce platform and associated technologies to ensure seamless customer experience, scalability, and performance. 
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement within the e-commerce space. Procure efficient and cost-effective technology solutions and software 
  • Utilize analytics and performance metrics to drive decisions related to the optimization of the e-commerce platform, customer engagement, and operational efficiencies. 
  • Evaluate and Ensure all e-commerce systems and technology solutions are secure, scalable, and compliant with industry standards and regulations (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR). 
  • Develop and support KPIs for measurement and team development* 
  • Develop and manage various external vendor relationships 
  • Implement project management best practices for application lifecycle management using various frameworks including scrum, waterfall, and agile* 
  • Develop and implement business continuity protocols to minimize disruptions to business operations in the event of emergency situations 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Hard skills: Excellent understanding of computer systems, security, databases and data storage systems. Strong technical knowledge of e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud), web development (e.g., JavaScript, HTML/CSS), cloud technologies, and APIs. Experience with data analytics, A/B testing, and performance optimization tools. Solid understanding of e-commerce best practices, digital marketing technologies, and customer experience strategies. Experience with middleware and software analytics software and analysis, implementation, and evaluation of technology systems, and managing an information technology budget required.  

 

ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university preferred 
  • 7+ years of related work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred 
  • 5+ years of managerial experience preferred 
  • Proven track record of leading successful e-commerce technology initiatives and driving digital transformation generating at least $50+ Million in top-line revenue 
  • Must be available to be on call as business needs require 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and arms to reach, handle, feel; utilize fine motor dexterity of fingers; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently operates in a fast-paced kitchen environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
