Senior DevOps Engineer

Markforged (NYSE: MKFG) is reinventing the $1 trillion+ worldwide manufacturing industry so that engineers can build anything they imagine while reducing environmental impact. With the market’s most robust 3D printing hardware, software and material solution, a world-class team, great customers and abundant capital, we’re well placed to continue our growth and innovation.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will be on the team responsible for Markforged’s additive manufacturing platform. The Digital Forge platform gives customers the ability to configure parts, visualize part geometry, improve part geometry with AI and ML models, and print on our cloud connected fleet of world class metal and composite 3D printers.

The DevOps team enables IoT, WebApp and Slicer App engineers to reliably and quickly deliver new features to users. DevOps plays a key role in driving large-scale architecture projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and implement infrastructure that is highly scalable, resilient, and secure.

What will you own?

This is a broad and deep role with company-wide impact and visibility.  You will sometimes be the final escalation point for a broad range of Internet-, security-, and cloud-related questions, coming from the software, customer success, and sales teams.  You'll need to be able to quickly wrap your head around new product features and architectures, make sense of possibly conflicting problem/bug reports, and dig in to troubleshoot (both internally and externally).

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Software team's development platforms, including both technologies (Kubernetes, CICD, Terraform, Docker), and services (AWS, CircleCI, NPMJS, GitHub, Snyk, Harness)
  • Permissions management
  • Acting as SRE for production environments
  • Acting as SME for cloud technologies (review PRs and participating in design sessions with Engineering team on how to best leverage cloud services to deliver product features)
  • Acting as SME for broader Internet technologies (company-wide domain registration, external DNS, and CDN strategy)
  • Evaluating and prioritizing security threats
  • AWS cost management
    • Identifying cost hot spots
    • Planning and implementing specific cost-savings strategies
  • Manage and prioritize DevOps backlog, encompassing product development, internal improvements, and security enhancements
  • Support customer escalations (pre- and post-sales) involving device connectivity, security, or authentication.
  • Collaborate with the internal IT/TechOps team on shared technologies and initiatives.

Important Note:
Although we list out what we generally look for, we are very likely missing other attributes and skills that you have that could make you a great fit, but are not currently listed. Research has shown this especially applies to women and other marginalized groups, who tend to apply if they check 100% of every box, versus men who apply if they hit roughly 60%. The point we’re getting at, it doesn’t hurt to take a chance and apply!

What you have:

  • 5+ year experience building and shipping high quality code with strong CS fundamentals
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Extensive experience with cloud providers, especially AWS portfolio products
  • Experience with scripting languages like Bash or Python
  • Comfort working with Monitoring and logging tools like Datadog, Cloudwatch, or Cloudtrail
  • Know your way around a UNIX shell
  • Experience with writing and supporting Javascript
  • Have excellent verbal & written English communication

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
