Director / Head of Finance

The Director / Head of Finance will be responsible for managing the financial health of the organization, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and optimizing financial processes. The ideal candidate will have a background in insurance accounting, proficiency in QuickBooks, and experience in financial management and reporting.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Assist in developing and implementing financial strategies to support business growth and profitability.
  • Monitor financial risk, including insurance claims reserves and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP.
  • Utilize QuickBooks to manage accounting records and streamline financial processes.
  • Collaborate with leadership to set financial goals and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Support financial planning and analysis (FP&A) to drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Oversee cash flow management and cost controls.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal insurance regulations and financial reporting standards.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and banks.
  • Supervise and mentor finance and accounting staff as needed
  • Oversee vendor payables, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Manage accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) to maintain cash flow efficiency.

 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred but not required).
  • 5+ years of experience in financial management, preferably within the insurance or trucking industry.
  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks and other accounting software.
  • Experience in insurance accounting, including premium accounting and claims reserves management.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations, insurance compliance, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
