Claims Internship
Over 11 weeks, you’ll rotate through five different modules across the Claims organization — each one giving you a new perspective on how claims are received, investigated, managed, and resolved.You’ll learn how to spot patterns, ask the right questions, support injured workers, and keep data accurate and reliable. By the end of the summer, you’ll understand the full lifecycle of a claim at MEMIC — and you’ll have real, hands‑on experience to show for it.
What You’ll Do
You’ll rotate through five immersive modules, each one giving you a behind‑the‑scenes look at a different part of the Claims world:
- Claim Intake, Support & Quality Assurance: See how claims first enter the system and what it takes to get them off to a strong start.
- Medical‑Only Claim Handling: Learn how medical‑only claims are managed and what information matters most.
- Indemnity Claim Handling: Dive into more complex claims involving lost time and deeper investigation.
- Claims Services & Managed Care: Explore how medical management, return‑to‑work strategies, and care coordination come together.
- Legal & Special Investigations: Get a peek into fraud detection, legal considerations, and investigative practices.
Along the way, you’ll also:
- Work hands‑on in the claim system
- Research, correct, and update data to support accuracy and quality
- Collaborate with the Claims team on a data quality project
- Build a final presentation with your fellow interns to share key takeaways, insights, and opportunities with Claims leadership
What You’ll Bring
- Pursuing an Associate’s degree or higher
- Strong computer skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint
- Clear communication and customer service skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- A problem‑solving mindset
