Head of Marketing - Accounting

Head of Marketing - Accounting (M5)

Ancient documents from Mesopotamia show what is believed to be the first accounting records: notes on goods received and traded, leading to some of the earliest developments in counting and money. About a thousand years later (but still in the 4th millennium BC), the first accountants came on the scene, creating an early form of bookkeeping using clay tokens.

While some things stand the test of time, at Mercury, we're embarking on an ambitious journey to add innovative account software alongside our beloved banking* products, to simplify finances for founders and accountants alike. And we’re looking for a Head of Marketing, Accounting, to lead the marketing efforts.

As the Head of Marketing- Accounting, you will create the strategy for scaling our accountant partner program and launching our accounting products. Both initiatives are zero-to-one projects, where you’ll need to experiment, iterate, and adapt quickly. You’ll work with our stellar marketing team—from PR to growth marketing—and partner closely with product and partnerships teams. This is a great opportunity to help Mercury grow our footprint in the accounting world and generate new revenue from transformative financial products.

*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group and Evolve Bank & Trust®; Members FDIC.

Here are some of the things that you’ll do:

  • Set the marketing strategy for the accountant partner program (with the goal of building a scaled acquisition channel) and the accounting products; both 0 -> 1 type projects
  • Dream up campaigns on accounting or for accountants, and work across marketing (PR, events, social, growth marketing) and the company (product, partnerships) to execute, iterating as you learn
  • Think creatively and make a business case for further investment – community, referral programs, content… lots of room to be creative and drive impact
  • Be accountable (along with partnerships and product) for Mercury growth from accountant partners and revenue from accounting products
  • Be a critical voice of marketing leadership; understanding how to hit targets while staying true to the brand and putting the customer first
  • Make strong, principled decisions and influence a cross-functional group to execute

There are lots of paths that could lead you to be successful in a role like this; we think the strongest candidates will have some of this experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in marketing, with a focus in partner marketing or product marketing
  • SaaS experience: You’ve worked at a B2B startup, preferably a SaaS company; experience marketing to accountants is a big plus
  • Strategy and details: Be able to operate at all levels of depth; setting marketing strategy and quarterly targets, while also enjoying reviewing the user journey and drafting copy
  • Results driven: You can set the right targets and are relentless at hitting them, using data and customer insights to continually refine the roadmap
  • Experimentation mindset: You understand the importance of testing and scaling what works, and can prioritize tests and find ways to get them out quickly; you are excited to build something from the ground up

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
