Senior Software Engineer - Growth Infrastructure

San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States

In the early days of global navigation, explorers charted new territories using hand-drawn maps, often incomplete and filled with perilous gaps. Every voyage was an unpredictable endeavor, riddled with dead ends, and wrong turns. Trade and expansion were limited by the lack of standardized routes and reliable ways to navigate.

Then came the age of maritime charts and the invention of longitude—a breakthrough that revolutionized how ships traversed the world. Suddenly, merchants and explorers could move faster, farther, and with confidence, fueling an explosion in global commerce.

Growth Infrastructure at Mercury plays a similar role in scaling our product. Our public API initiative is our next navigational chart—an infrastructure that enables businesses to integrate Mercury into other ecosystems, unlocking massive new growth opportunities.

As a member of the Growth Infrastructure team, you will be at the forefront of Mercury’s expansion, developing a public-facing API that drives adoption, increases activation, and scales Mercury’s reach.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Grow Mercury’s Public API to enable seamless partner integration, making Mercury’s financial services more accessible across diverse ecosystems.
  • Expand and refine our public endpoints to drive distribution and scale Mercury’s presence in partner products, accelerating new customer acquisition.
  • Design and implement API security measures including authentication, authorization, and compliance to ensure safe and scalable integrations.
  • Optimize performance and scalability to handle high-throughput traffic and provide a seamless experience for partners embedding Mercury.
  • Develop and maintain versioning strategies to ensure stability and backward compatibility while quickly iterating on features.
  • Unlock new partnership opportunities by refining tools and levers that remove friction in integrations, enhancing adoption, and driving growth.

The ideal candidate for this role:

  • Has 6+ years of software development experience, with a knowledge of or excitement to learn Haskell
  • Is highly autonomous and thrives in a fast-moving environment, capable of making impactful product and technical decisions.
  • Is passionate about APIs and understands how to design and maintain robust, developer-friendly interfaces that drive adoption and engagement.
  • Has strong product thinking—you should be excited about working on growth-related challenges and be comfortable prioritizing impactful work that increases user acquisition.
  • Has experience with system design and architecture, with a track record of making tradeoff decisions and measuring their impact over time.
  • Has expertise in API security and understands best practices for protecting sensitive data.
  • Enjoys cross-functional collaboration, working closely with stakeholders across product and sales to align API development with Mercury’s growth strategy.
  • Is comfortable navigating ambiguity, iterating quickly, and focusing on the highest-leverage opportunities to scale Mercury’s distribution through API partnerships.
