Assistant Controller
As the Assistant Controller at Merit, you will be responsible for coordinating and maintaining all Accounting functions, including the financial month-end close process, accounts receivable including retailer compliance, lifecycle receivables management, and account reconciliations. Our ideal candidate is self-directed, proactive, and possesses resourcefulness to take on various accounting related initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP and company policies
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll
- Maintain an accurate General Ledger
- Manage cash flow, including billing, AP/AR, and payment schedules to optimize working capital
- Assist in activities related to cash management
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings
- Assist in year-end audits and tax workpaper preparation
- Manage internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with all required documentation and reporting
- Support the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting activities
- Monitor and improve internal controls and procedures to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
- Manage, grow and develop one direct report (and determine resourcing at business demands)
- Lead special projects and process improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency within the accounting department
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, CPA license required
- 7+ years of accounting experience, with prior experience in a leadership role overseeing the majority, or all, of accounting operations
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and GAAP
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
- Proficiency with NetSuite and knowledge of payments and T/E platforms (like Tipalti and Navan
- High proficiency in Excel
- A high attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- An ability to be flexible and adaptable as business priorities shift
- An ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels within an organization
- A high level of integrity, with a commitment to ethical and sound financial practices
- An ability to meet deadlines, with the ability to prioritize and manage projects effectively
- An ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in a very fast-paced start-up environment
MERIT is proud to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package in addition to salary compensation. The annual salary range for this role is $120,000 - 140,000 in addition to bonus potential, stock options, a 401(k) match, health benefits, paid time off and more.
