Communications Director

Reports to: Chief Marketing Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Irving, TX

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Communications Director to lead internal and external communications across our portfolio of commercial HVAC companies and corporate brand. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, this is a high-impact and visible role in a fast-growing organization that is built on acquisition and expansion. If you are someone who thrives on the combination of strategic planning, team leadership and hands on execution, have experience navigating multi-brand complexity and are able to develop strong relationships with internal leadership, teammates, and outside media audiences, then this is your chance to lead in a role that clearly drives business success.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and lead communications strategies that enhance brand reputation and support business growth.
  • Own acquisition communications, guiding external messaging through announcements, brand transitions, and customer updates.
  • Serve as the primary media contact, building relationships with key HVAC and industrial trade publications to secure positive media coverage.
  • Craft clear, engaging content strategies, including press releases, executive announcements, and thought leadership articles, that translate complex business updates into accessible narratives.
  • Position company leadership and experts as trusted voices in the industry by lining up media interviews, bylined articles, and speaking engagements.
  • Support our portfolio of operating companies, advising on local PR efforts and ensuring alignment with our corporate brand voice.
  • Monitor brand perception and industry coverage, developing proactive and reactive strategies to manage reputation and lead crisis communications when necessary.
  • Measure communications performance, tracking media coverage, audience sentiment, and campaign effectiveness to continuously refine strategy.
  • Oversee, guide and lead a fast-paced team of Communications and Social Media professionals, while working collaboratively with entire in-house marketing team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • 5-8 years of experience in marketing communications, public relations, and media relations, preferably in B2B, industrial, or HVAC/construction sectors.
  • Experience managing teams and interfacing with senior level executives
  • Ability to simplify complex business or technical topics into clear, engaging messaging
  • Proven success building media relationships and securing coverage, especially with trade publications.
  • Experience supporting multi-brand organizations, portfolio businesses, or navigating brand transitions through acquisitions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with reputation management, crisis communications, and executive messaging.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, construction, or industrial markets preferred but not required.
  • B2B communications or agency experience is a plus.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mental stamina for problem solving and prioritizing multiple tasks. 

Environmental Requirements

Will be required to work in an office environment and possibly, occasionally in the field.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate a computer keyboard and telephone and reach items with their hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
