VP, Corporate Controller

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Irving, TX

FLSA Status: Exempt

The Opportunity

Seeking a world-class Corporate Controller to lead the Corporate Accounting Department, including Meriton’s accounting Shared Services, payroll, and tax.  The Corporate Controller will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing all accounting processes, policies and procedures for the business to ensure the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements.  This is a hands-on role where a healthy balance between coaching, delegating, and individually contributing is critical.  Ideal candidates will have prior experience in accounting leadership roles, including hands-on or working knowledge of key accounting functions, including AP, AR, General Ledger, Payroll, and Tax.  Candidates with experience in a construction, engineering or HVAC environments is highly desired. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Optimize Accounting Departments: Work with the CAO to optimize the accounting functions by planning and coordinating all accounting functions and implementing a co-developed strategy to build a world class corporate accounting function. Work closely with FP&A and Treasury functions to deliver cashflow objectives.
  • Accounting: Execute month-end close process while maintaining accurate accounting records. Own financial consolidation process while maintaining complete and accurate account reconciliations.  Monitor changes in accounting standards to ensure proper application.
  • Financial Reporting: Deliver accurate and timely consolidated financial reporting in accordance to GAAP. Prepare executive management reporting and analytics and other ad-hoc information reporting.  Serve as the audit leader for external auditors to successfully complete the year end audit.
  • Management: Collaborate with business unit controllers and across other internal functions. Ensure the accounting department successfully meets budgeted objectives, key projects and deliverables and planning responsibilities. Develop, report, and monitor metric driven processes across accounting and shared services.
  • Controls and Compliance: Working with the CAO, develop, implement and monitor a strong internal control environment. Working with business unit controllers, manage and track all statutory and compliance reporting.  Develop and implement centralized accounting policies and procedures.
  • Acquisition and Integrations: Support due diligence and other accounting activities as identified in a highly acquisitive environment. Support the integration of accounting processes and controls across acquirees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, required.
  • Minimum 12 years of diverse accounting experience with multilocation experience preferred
  • CPA license required
  • Master’s degree in accounting or MBA preferred
  • HVAC, Mechanical Contracting, Engineering or Construction industry experience a plus
  • High level of initiative with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, deal with ambiguity and manage projects
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with absolute confidentiality and professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written, as well as the ability to facilitate both small and large groups in a variety of forms including presentations, working meetings, business reviews and informal discussions
  • Exceptional PC skills in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn Accounting system applications.
  • Strong understanding of data-driven analysis, models and visualization tools (i.e. Power BI, SQL Server)

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mental stamina for problem solving and prioritizing multiple tasks.

Environmental Requirements

Will be required to work in an office environment and possibly, occasionally in the field.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate computer keyboard and telephone, reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
