Coordinator, Event Business & Strategy

Overview: The Coordinator, Event Business & Strategy will serve as a key member of the Event Business & Strategy vertical which leads the Global Events Department’s long-term event development efforts (i.e., Futures Sites / event concept development, strategic opportunities, deal negotiation) and manages the development and execution of strong business practices (i.e., FP&A, contract development). This role will focus primarily on day-to-day management of Department budget tracking and financial organization, and will support longer-term strategic efforts and reporting in close coordination with the Vertical Lead.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Budget tracking: Own budget tracking process, including real-time maintenance of processes and associated documentation - liaising regularly with Event Leads to reflect latest financials across the Department’s portfolio of events / spend

  • Financial projections / FP&A: Develop and frequently update financial projections on behalf of the Department, and be comfortable presenting these updates to Department leadership and MLB Finance with sound supporting rationale

  • Invoicing: Oversee invoicing on behalf of the Department, including liaising directly with Finance and Department members to submit / resolve / monitor invoices

  • Process improvement: Proactively ideate on and test process improvements for managing Department business - with an initial focus on budget / finances, then legal / contracting and other organizational items

  • Cost savings: Identify and suggest opportunities for cost savings, leveraging Department-wide view of financials to surface synergies or inconsistencies where applicable

  • Strategic analysis: Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses in support of strategic diligence projects for the Department - ranging from evaluation of existing data tied to MLB event execution, to benchmarking peer sports properties in support of further developing MLB’s event portfolio

  • Impact reporting: Play a key role in supporting event impact reporting efforts - aggregating information from across the organization (i.e., outcome metrics and liaising w/ MLB Analytics) and working with external vendors on report development (incl. economic impact calculations)

  • Presentation & materials development: Support creation of clear presentation and/or tracking materials (i.e., spreadsheets) for executive audiences as needed

  • Contract support: Support deal negotiation (venues, promoters) and contract development by tracking key details throughout the negotiation process and helping to prepare status updates for internal parties

  • Event execution support: Support event execution on the ground (i.e., Operations, Services) where interested and capacity permitting
