A Day in the Life:
In the position of Yard Jockey, you will be responsible for the movement of trailers within the premises. Through safe and communicative practices, the employee will aid Transportation and Warehouse needs.
The Impact You'll Make:
- Move company equipment, trailers on and off docks as needed. Conduct visual inspections of the equipment, trailers must be done on a regular basis. Report any defects that are found to management. Position may serve as a back up Class
A driver. - Establish communication between Transportation and Warehouse teams. Leads, supervisors, or managers must authorize the movement of a equipment, trailer. Management will also remove any locks on the air lines; this prevents untimely movement of trailers.
- Aid in the preventive maintenance (PM) process of our trailers needs between the jockey, transportation, and our maintenance technicians. Trailers due for a PM must be parked by our maintenance provider. Equipment is inspected, repaired, and maintained in such a way that defects are prevented from surfacing in the first place, before a violation or accident can occur.
- Preshift and post shift inspections of our tractor must be done as required. Report any defects found, any incidents or damages that occur throughout the shift immediately to management
- Maintain proper charging of equipment with minimal down time
