⭐ Our European Expansion team

We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone and wave goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking. An important part of that journey is bringing Monzo beyond the shores of the UK and to the wider European market. With our hot coral cards, financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers – and are now looking to bring that experience to Europe.

Data is crucial to the success of this mission and Analytics Engineering is at the core of how we build and scale our data to enable both faster and better decision making necessary to drive Monzo’s growth. Joining now gives you the chance to shape our expansion strategy and impact data at scale at Monzo.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Serving as a data architect for Monzo’s EU expansion, contributing to the design and scalability of data models that measure the performance and engagement of our product suite.
  • Collaborating closely with the rest of the tech organisation across Monzo to prioritise internationalisation from gathering requirements to making the appropriate trade-offs.
  • Work closely with backend engineering and our data platform team to define the data architecture across our systems to ensure we are capturing the right data at source and have a unified data model for both our backend and data infrastructure.
  • Help shape and maintain best practices for our data warehouse, including source data payload design, logical data modelling, implementation, metadata, and testing standards.
  • Develop robust data models downstream of backend services, primarily in BigQuery, to enable internal reporting, machine learning, as well as financial and regulatory use cases.
  • Collaboratively set standards and work with data across Monzo, fostering knowledge sharing and continuously improving data practices.
  • Contribute to prioritising data governance issues, ensuring a comprehensive approach to data integrity and compliance.
  • We all own and support the pipelines we contribute to, and on call support out of hours will be expected from time to time as part of this role.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have a strong passion for data modelling, ETL projects, Big Data and scaling data warehousing infrastructure effectively.
  • You enjoy working with data streams from various services, such as financial, transactional, and operational systems.
  • SQL and data modelling are second nature to you, and you are comfortable with general Data Warehousing concepts.
  • You are committed to continuous improvement, proactively identifying opportunities and addressing challenges in your work and the work of others.
  • You have experience building robust and reliable data sets that require a high level of control.
  • You enjoy working with cross-functional, fast-moving teams and balancing priorities whilst being focused on the best outcomes for our customers.
  • You are able to think strategically about Monzo’s product set and growth – working closely with product squads to understand upcoming product changes and planning accordingly in our data architecture that will unlock more insights for our team and more value for our customers.
  • You are excited about enabling other Data Scientists and Analytics Engineers by sharing your expertise on data architecture, as well as influencing our backend engineering decisions.

Our goal at Monzo is to make money work for everyone. To do that, working at Monzo must work for everyone. We want to create an equitable, engaged and innovative workplace which gives people from all backgrounds the support they need to thrive and grow.

Making Monzo work for everyone starts right at the beginning of every Monzonaut's journey: when they apply to work here. This demographic survey will help us better understand the people who apply to work at Monzo. It'll help us see how different groups progress through our hiring process, and where we need to make improvements to be more inclusive. If you choose to fill it out, all of the information you give us is:

  • Voluntary. And we've included a "prefer not to say" option for every question. It'd be helpful if you still fill out the survey even if you choose "prefer not to say" for every question, as it's useful for us to understand & record this. We won't know if you choose to fill this survey in or not.
  • Anonymous to Monzo. We can't tie your responses to you and they won't make a difference to the outcome of your application. We'll only use grouped responses for equal opportunities monitoring in our hiring process.
