Mission & Purpose

At Monzo, we're building the best bank account in the world: fair, transparent and a pleasure to use. Monzo’s mission is to make money work for everyone, and this is especially important to us for our customers and the service we provide.

Monzo customers already love the service they receive from our teams. As we grow, we want to build on this and believe that working with operational suppliers gives us the opportunity to continue to build great customer relationships through both our internal and third party teams.

We're looking for a Risk & Governance Manager to join our Global Operations team and help us do this. You’ll be making sure that, as we scale up our supplier footprint, we are fully in control and giving our customers an amazing service. You’ll help shape the way we think about our risks and governance across our partner footprint of outsourcing at Monzo to help us integrate our partners to be an extension of our amazing in-house team.

About the role:

The Risk and Governance Manager role is responsible for creating and managing a risk culture and mindset across our internal global operations team and our operational partners that we work with daily. You will take charge of making sure we have well defined controls, processes and governance models in place to continually meet the growing and evolving demands of our  global partner relationships. You will be seen as a first line of defence for managing all risks and issues connected to our operational areas with our partners, using your knowledge and skills to build appropriate frameworks and monitoring to ensure we are managing our known risks well and correctly. You will drive a risk mindset culture across the team and lead from the front in supporting other members of the team in managing through risks and issues as they arise.

We work within a mixture of regulated and unregulated deadlines when it comes to risk monitoring so crucial that weekly Quality Control is conducted and feedback and coaching is provided. Quality Assurance will also be assessed and this will be a key deliverable that feedback and remediation takes place in a timely manner.

Your day to day:

  • Create, build, manage and maintain effective risk management models that work for us at Monzo but are easily supported by our partners
  • Understand and identify where our key risks are in our current operating model and build ways to help mitigate or control these risks effectively
  • Defining and leading Supplier Assessment strategy (onsite / remote based audits)
  • Partner closely with 2nd and 3rd line of defence across the Monzo team to ensure risks are effectively being monitored and controlled
  • Be the internal team lead on any internal or external audits within the team or with our partners
  • Manage ongoing monitoring and resolution of open issues identified against our operating model with our partners
  • Creating and owning a full risk management roadmap for the global ops teams capturing key dates and objectives across the team
  • Act as an owner and mentor across the team for driving risk management ownership and understanding and leading on a vision for enhancing knowledge and performance across the team around risk management
  • Manage and improve controls that help protect our customer and business needs, with a constant vision on how to continue to innovate and evolve our control frameworks
  • Support any new partner relationships, locations or changes that happen across the operation to ensure these have been effectively assessed

You should apply if:

  • You have a passion and experience in risk management, especially working with third party suppliers
  • You have a proven ability to implement sustainable uplift in risk processes
  • Are used to working in a fast paced environment and dealing with shifting priorities
  • You have a comprehensive understanding of outsourcing regulations, ideally obtained in banking or financial services
  • You are proficient in developing strategies to ensure effective risk management of third-parties throughout their lifecycle
  • You have a deep knowledge of, and ability to interpret risk regulations and standards across different jurisdictions
  • You are delivery focussed with a genuine appetite to develop sustainable solutions in an innovative way
  • Excellent English written & verbal communication skills
  • Values driven approach in line with Monzo’s core values
  • Strong ability to coach and develop teams around risk management principles

This demographic survey will help us better understand the people who apply to work at Monzo. It'll help us see how different groups progress through our hiring process, and where we need to make improvements to be more inclusive. If you choose to fill it out, all of the information you give us is:

  • Voluntary. And we've included a "prefer not to say" option for every question. It'd be helpful if you still fill out the survey even if you choose "prefer not to say" for every question, as it's useful for us to understand & record this.
