Senior Controls Manager, ERMF

London; Remote (UK)

🚀 We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone.

We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.

After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us.

With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!

We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo ❤️

📍London/UK Remote | 💰£108,700 - £147,100 + equity + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits  ✨

We’re looking for a Senior Manager to join our Controls Discipline. This role is critical in driving greater efficiency and automation across our central control processes, including Issues Management, Policies & Standards, Risk & Control Self Assessment, Regulatory Change & Horizon Scanning and Non-Prudential Regulatory Reporting.

The successful person will help our embedded Control Business Partners and Risk Owners to operationalise all aspects of Monzo’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) in the first line of defence. This requires a Product and Service mindset - equipping the organisation with the platform, processes, data and training to make control management as automated, simple and proportionate as possible.

This is a global capability, delivering to all markets and subsidiaries. Close engagement with Risk & Compliance in the second line is a success measure as they set the risk appetite, frameworks and bar for first line execution.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • As a Subject Matter Expert, designing (and re-designing) processes, systems and controls to ensure proportionate and risk based compliance with the ERMF.
  • Partnering for growth with Risk & Compliance.
  • Operating with a product and service mindset to deliver value to Risk Owners.
  • Driving real-time data insights to ensure controls are kept ‘live’.
  • Elevate Monzo’s control environment to greater maturity and scalability, pioneering a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Contributing to successful re-platforming across GRC and Regulatory horizon scanning tools.
  • Fostering positive relationships across the three lines of defence, upskilling risk owners to take greater accountability for control processes, and promoting a transparent risk culture.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You bring exceptional risk and control expertise from Banking, Financial Services, or FinTech.
  • You have a proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and tackle complex issues in matrix environments.
  • You have a strong track record in managing 1st line risk - and are ‘hands on’ in doing so - with experience growing new business ‘in control’.
  • You’re a data driven control leader.
  • You thrive in fast-paced settings, showcasing resilience, adaptability, and exceptional execution skills as the landscape evolves.
  • You exhibit curiosity and collaboration, adept at asking insightful questions and quickly acting on new information.
  • Experience in process improvement, deploying AI, and/or working in scaling environments or tech companies is a plus!

Making Monzo work for everyone starts right at the beginning of every Monzonaut's journey: when they apply to work here. This demographic survey will help us better understand the people who apply to work at Monzo. It'll help us see how different groups progress through our hiring process, and where we need to make improvements to be more inclusive. If you choose to fill it out, all of the information you give us is:

  • Voluntary. And we've included a "prefer not to say" option for every question. It'd be helpful if you still fill out the survey even if you choose "prefer not to say" for every question, as it's useful for us to understand & record this. We won't know if you choose to fill this survey in or not.
  • Anonymous to Monzo. We can't tie your responses to you and they won't make a difference to the outcome of your application. We'll only use grouped responses for equal opportunities monitoring in our hiring process.
