Product Security Engineering Intern

Remote, USA

We are seeking a Product Security Engineering Intern to join our team. This role will support the processes and technologies used to secure our products and systems while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced FinTech environment.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere within the United States or from our Oakland office. We’d love for you to join us!

This will be a 12 week internship program, beginning on June 1st and running through August 21st, 2026.

The Impact You’ll Have

  • Assist with security design reviews and threat modeling under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Help build and maintain automated security testing tools integrated into CI/CD pipelines
  • Support the creation of security education and training materials for engineering teams
  • Research and document secure architecture patterns and best practices
  • Assist in proof of concept evaluations for application security solutions
  • Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Product Security Team

Who You Are

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field
  • Foundational understanding of software development and common security concepts (e.g., OWASP Top 10)
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go, or JavaScript) and at least one cloud platform, such as AWS
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn about application security, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD workflows
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Nice-To-Haves

  • Cybersecurity or Cloud Computing Certifications
  • Open source software contributions
  • Involvement in Capture the Flag or other cybersecurity competitions or events
  • Examples of practical applications of skills in the areas of AppSec, DevSecOps, or Offensive Security

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining pay, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The 2026 Internship hourly rate is:

  • National: $45/hr
  • Premium: $49/hr
  • Premium Plus: $53/hr
