Shop Foreman – Main Street Auto
Job Details: M-F (7am-6pm)
Salary: $75,000-$130,000 annually (Depending on prior experience and skillset)
Position Summary
The Shop Foreman ensures all diagnostics and repairs are completed correctly, efficiently, and safely while maintaining exceptional communication between the front counter and back shop. This role combines hands-on production responsibilities with leadership oversight of the shop team, ensuring total shop productivity, quality control, and an outstanding customer experience.
The Shop Foreman works closely with the General Manager to direct workflow, monitor technician efficiency, manage dispatching, and drive continuous improvement in shop performance and team development.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead and oversee all production in the shop, ensuring maximum efficiency and quality output from all technicians.
- Partner with the General Manager to manage dispatch, ensuring optimal technician workload and repair flow throughout the day.
- Conduct daily production huddles and lead team communication when the GM is unavailable.
- Foster a positive, professional, and safe shop culture consistent with Main Street Auto’s Core Values: Excellence, Integrity, Customer Commitment, One Team, and Growth with Purpose.
- Coach and mentor General Service Technicians toward becoming B- and A-Level Technicians through consistent training and performance feedback.
- Monitor and hold team members accountable for quality workmanship, time management, and compliance with company standards.
Technical Excellence & Production:
- Perform diagnostics, testing, and complex repairs as a Master Technician.
- Support technicians with advanced diagnostic challenges, testing procedures, and repair accuracy.
- Review, approve, and audit repair orders for accuracy, quality, and completeness.
- Ensure that all vehicles are road-tested before and after service.
- Maintain active ASE Master Technician certification and assist others in obtaining or renewing their certifications.
Shop Operations:
- Ensure all repairs meet MSA quality and safety standards while minimizing comebacks and warranty exposure.
- Verify repair estimates are quoted accurately with proper labor times, parts, and sublet costs.
- Oversee the care, organization, and inventory of special tools and shop equipment; ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment in compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.
- Monitor and report shop productivity and efficiency metrics daily.
Customer Experience:
- Communicate directly with customers as needed regarding diagnostics, testing results, and repair recommendations.
- Partner with the Service Advisor and GM to ensure clear communication, timely updates, and transparent explanations of repair findings.
- Represent Main Street Auto’s customer-first values with professionalism and empathy in all interactions.
Required Qualifications:
- ASE Master Technician certification (must be maintained throughout employment)
- 5+ years of hands-on technician experience with strong diagnostic and drivability expertise
- Proven leadership or mentoring experience within a repair shop environment
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced setting
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Working knowledge of shop management systems
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Performance Expectations:
- Maintain shop productivity, efficiency, and quality targets
- Ensure Digital Vehicle Inspections are completed on each vehicle
- Ensure 100% compliance with Main Street Auto’s safety, quality, and policy standards
- Lead by example with professionalism, integrity, and urgency
- Support the GM in achieving store profitability, labor gross profit, and car count targets
