The Internship Program
Marshall Wace’s fundamental strategies are designed to capture stock based idiosyncratic alpha and are concentrated in specific regions and sectors. Each fundamental strategy team is managed by a Portfolio Manager and supported by a number of Analysts with distinct areas of expertise. We seek to achieve exceptional returns at all stages of the investment process through creative idea generation, rigorous due diligence, company meetings, detailed financial modelling, disciplined portfolio construction and efficient trading and implementation. During this internship, students will gain broad exposure to investment research, stock selection, portfolio construction, and risk management.
Responsibilities
- Support the generation of long and short equity investment ideas through financial modeling and proprietary research, under the guidance of the team
- Assist with active and ongoing monitoring of portfolio holdings, including tracking news and key events related to companies under coverage
- Participate in earnings calls and help update financial models and research based on new information
- Attend industry conferences, company calls, and meetings with management
- Contribute to differentiated bottoms-up financial analysis of companies, business models, industry metrics, and broader sector trends
Requirements:
To be successful in this role you will need to be highly analytical, with the ability to think critically and creatively as well as be conversant with the principles of finance. Successful applicants share some common traits:
- Excellent academic credentials
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for the public market investing and fundamental analysis
- Advanced understanding of accounting/financial statements with the ability to identify key drivers of a business and industry
- Excellent Excel modeling skills
- A self-starter mentality with an ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative, team-oriented personality
