Director of Accounting
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Accounting runs day-to-day certain accounting operations and certain areas within month-end close. This role will be overseeing accounting and certain administration functions within payroll and equity as well as certain general technical accounting activities and some related compliance functions. Responsible for meeting deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including certain general ledger preparation and certain areas within financial reporting. Responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Director of Accounting is reporting to Chief Accounting Officer.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages team of direct reports ensuring distribution of work and effective management to ensure achievement of quality and quantity of objectives
- Responsible for certain aspects of the month end close process, including review of certain footnotes within financial statements
- Prepare and review of certain month end reconciliations of Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts
- Experienced in SOX compliance
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
- Lead the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the functional area
- Lead person on Financial Statement audits related to specific function areas assigned to this role
- Lead certain applications implementation projects to streamline processes in the functional subgroup
- Support Chief Accounting Officer with special projects
- Respond to other department managers regarding ongoing inter-departmental activities and projects
- Provide guidance to accounting staff on processes and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
- Build and manage a high performing functional team that maintains a strong “client service” focus and culture
- Responsible for recruiting, interviewing and hiring qualified team resources
- Identify and ensure the training and development needs of team members are met
- Plan and define performance goals with senior financial management to set overall and team-level performance measures and goals
- Establish collaborative relationships with internal and external clients to understand the business
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
- Minimum of 10 years leading sub-teams and a month end close process is required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Big 4 Public Accounting experience is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to manage independently and partner with others to obtain results
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills
- Proven experience coaching and motivating a productive and cohesive team that consistently exceeds expectations
- Ability to lead complex projects that require influence and implementation across business groups and functions
- Strong communications skills
- Proven success working well under pressure and meeting deadline
- Must be a self-starter with a problem-solver attitude, ability to multi-tasking
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Duties typically performed in an office setting
- This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material
- Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings & weekends) at times
