Role Summary 

The AVP & Actuary – Enterprise Asset Liability Management Strategy serves as the Company’s senior actuarial advisor responsible for advancing the analytical framework used to evaluate the interaction of assets, liabilities, product design, and investment strategies. Reporting directly to the Chief Actuary, this role provides enterprise insights that support profitable growth, balance sheet management, and long-term financial performance. 

Working across the Actuarial, Investments, Product Development, Finance, and Enterprise Risk Management organizations, this role provides analytical insights into how business decisions influence profitability, balance sheet performance, and long-term value creation. 

The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in life and annuity products, asset-liability interactions, and enterprise financials, along with the ability to influence senior leaders through analytical insight, collaboration, and strategic thinking. 

This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you will be in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days.  Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develop enterprise ALM analyses and perspectives that enhance balance sheet management, profitability, and long-term business performance. 
  • Provide actuarial insight into enterprise profitability drivers by integrating perspectives across liabilities, assets, product design, and investment performance. 
  • Partner with Investments to evaluate asset-liability interactions and provide actuarial analyses supporting investment decision-making. 
  • Partner with Product Development to assess the ALM implications of new products, pricing strategies, and other business initiatives. 
  • Define strategic ALM analytical needs and partner with actuarial modeling teams to develop the modeling capabilities, scenario analyses, and frameworks required to evaluate enterprise decisions. 
  • Monitor emerging economic, regulatory, accounting, and industry developments and assess their implications for the Company’s financial strategy. 
  • Present strategic analyses and actionable insights to executive leadership that inform enterprise strategy and business decisions. 
  • Represent the actuarial organization on cross-functional strategic initiatives while building strong partnerships across Investments, Product Development, Finance, Capital Management, Risk Management, and executive leadership.

  • All other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, economics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline and 19 or more years of related work experience, OR an advanced degree and 16 or more years of related experience, OR 23 or more years of total equivalent work experience 
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) 
  • Progressively responsible actuarial experience within the life insurance industry 
  • Deep expertise in life and annuity products, asset-liability management, actuarial modeling, and enterprise financial dynamics, with a strong understanding of product design, investment portfolios, and asset-intensive business 
  • Experience influencing executive-level decisions through analytical insight 
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate technical analyses into actionable business insights 
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional relationships across actuarial, investments, finance, and other business partners 
  • Ability to pass a full background investigation 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, Statutory, and Economic financial reporting and their implications for asset liability management 
  • Experience supporting strategic reinsurance initiatives and enterprise financial planning 
  • Expertise with actuarial modeling platforms including MG-ALFA or comparable modeling systems 
  • Experience with indexed life insurance and annuity products

Benefits

Base Pay Range.  The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors.  The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.

Additional Compensation and Benefits. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Salary Pay Range

$183,750 - $269,500 USD
