Export Compliance Associate
Who we are
Neros is a defense technology company rebuilding America’s drone industrial base. We design and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are tested in combat, iterated at startup speed, and built at massive scale. Our team culture is fast, hands-on, and obsessed with closing the gap between design and deployment.
As drones transform the character of warfare, Neros is delivering the systems the West needs to compete on the modern battlefield and deter the adversaries of democracy. We’re hiring engineers, operators, and builders who want to move fast, take on extreme ownership, and get capability into the hands of warfighters in months, not years.
What you will be doing
The Export Compliance Associate (ECA) plays a key role in shaping and administering Neros’ Export Compliance Program. Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs and Export Compliance Manager, this role will draft and file ITAR license applications, including Technical Assistance Agreements and Manufacturing License Agreements that are vital to Neros’ continued operations around the world. The ECA will also help refine policies, enforce internal controls, and streamline licensing pathways that allow Neros to rapidly scale internationally. Additionally, the ECA will help implement policies that enable robust supply chain and partner vetting, and prevent the unauthorized transfer of, or foreign access to, Neros’ technology.
Responsibilities
- Licensing and Classification: Assist with managing export classifications, licensing pathways, authorizations, and regulatory documentation to support international growth.
- Compliance Enforcement: Refine and enforce export compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls across ITAR, EAR, sanctions, and foreign-access requirements.
- Cross-Functional Asset: Partner with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Legal, and Program teams to vet suppliers, screen transactions, and embed compliance into daily workflows
You should have the following
- 3+ years of export compliance, trade compliance, or defense/aerospace compliance experience, ideally in a high-growth defense, aerospace company, or dual-use technology environment. Experience may also be with a federal government regulator like the Department of Commerce (BIS) or the State Dept (DDTC)
- Hands-on experience with ITAR and EAR requirements, including controlled technical data, deemed exports, foreign-person access controls, export authorizations, and technology control plans
- Experience supporting managers with export classifications and licensing activities, including ECCNs, USML categories, commodity jurisdiction/classification analysis, DDTC licensing, BIS licensing, TAAs/MLAs, DSP licenses, and related regulatory documentation
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. sanctions, restricted-party screening, end-use/end-user reviews, and supply-chain compliance controls, including supplier, customer, distributor, and international transaction vetting
- Proven ability to build, refine, and enforce compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls across cross-functional teams such as Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Legal, and Program Management
- Experience training internal teams on export compliance requirements, especially around handling controlled technical data, protecting sensitive IP, and preventing unauthorized foreign access
- Strong documentation and audit-readiness skills, including maintaining licensing records, classification matrices, screening logs, compliance workflows, and evidence of internal controls
Nice to have
- Previous experience as an Empowered Official or with the State Dept Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) or Dept of Commerce (BIS)
- Previous experience scaling companies from Series B+
