Senior Project Engineer, Electric Vehicle Charging

New Leaf Energy is seeking a Senior Project Engineer for our growing electric vehicle fast-charging business. New Leaf Energy was formed in 2022 out of the development arm of Borrego Energy, one of the most trusted names in clean energy development and construction. We launched our EV charging business in December 2022, and have been rapidly scaling up our offering to become a leading provider of public and fleet charging solutions in the U.S.
As Senior Project Engineer for Electric Vehicle Charging, you will join a small team of in-house engineers in our EV fast-charging development business. In this capacity, you’ll have the opportunity to accelerate NLE’s EV Charging development process and to interact directly with the business leaders who are shaping New Leaf Energy’s EV strategy.
New Leaf Energy’s EV charging division is a hybrid-forward workplace, which means that we encourage flexibility in work arrangements but also value in-person collaboration at our office. We strongly prefer to hire someone who is located in the Boston, Massachusetts metro area and able to join us in person at our Natick, MA satellite office two days per week.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Move a large number of sites through local permitting processes expeditiously;
- Site review, zoning and bylaws review, and determining entitlement pathways;
- Manage outsourced survey, environmental and engineering consultants to budgets and timelines;
- Work directly with the state agencies, towns, and other stakeholders to obtain permits. There may be some (limited) opportunities to present to local planning and zoning boards or other permitting authorities;
- Draft permit documentation as necessary (e.g., permitting narratives, exhibits, appendices, etc.);
- Direct and review design drawings prepared by in-house or external designers.
Desired Qualifications
While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes. - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering;
- E.I.T required, P.E. license preferred, but not required;
- 6 - 12 years experience in site development, entitlement, and environmental permitting (municipal, state, federal); EV charging experience desired;
- Ability to understand and work with electrical utilities to move projects through their new service application process is desired;
- Experience in cost estimation, reviewing engineering services contracts, managing outside consultants;
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Although not required, we also desire candidates with proficiency in HYDROCAD (or equivalent design tools);
- Ability to communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, engineers, regulatory officials, and consultants;
- Ability to manage multiple projects while being highly motivated, detailed, and organized.
Compensation
New Leaf Energy compensates all employees in three ways: market-competitive base salary, plus above-market variable compensation, plus an equity-like program such that all employees experience the benefits of ownership. We use a data-driven and transparent methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by the New Leaf Energy compensation manual, which is available to all employees.
Under our compensation framework, the likely base salary range for this position in the Boston Metro location is $126,770-$146,440. The on-target annual cash bonus associated with this position is an additional 20% percent of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your location and experience. We value transparency and can share more during the interview process.
