Senior Manager, Broadcast Engineering

The Senior Manager of Broadcast Engineering is responsible for overseeing the planning, management, and execution of broadcast engineering operations. This includes maintaining broadcast equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and leading a team of engineers. The role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of broadcast engineers.
    • Develop and implement engineering strategies to enhance broadcast quality and reliability.
    • Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless broadcast operations.
  • Technical Oversight:
    • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of broadcast equipment.
    • Ensure all broadcast operations comply with FCC regulations and industry standards.
    • Evaluate new technologies and equipment to keep the broadcast infrastructure current.
  • Project Management:
    • Plan and manage broadcast engineering projects, including budgeting and timelines.
    • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for equipment procurement and installation.
    • Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Operational Support:
    • Provide technical support for live broadcasts and production events.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly to ensure uninterrupted service.
    • Maintain detailed documentation of all engineering processes and equipment.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in broadcast engineering.
    • At least 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Skills:
    • Extensive knowledge of broadcast systems and equipment.
    • Proficiency in RF, satellite, and IP-based broadcast technologies.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications in relevant technical fields (e.g., SBE, SMPTE).
  • Experience with digital and HD broadcast systems.
  • Familiarity with IT systems and networking as they pertain to broadcast engineering.

 

Other Key Attributes / Characteristics

  • This role may require occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including office settings, studios, and outdoor broadcast sites.

 

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift and handle broadcast equipment.

 

Travel

  • Limited travel.

 

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • This position will require work in excess of 40 hours per week and availability as needed for time-sensitive matters

 

 

Salary / Pay Range

The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range. 

 

Salary

$150,000 - $200,000 USD
