Assistant Counsel

The National Football League is seeking a transactional attorney who will be responsible for supporting a broad range of media-related transactions and related advisory work. This is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic in-house legal team that supports the NFL’s media business units and content licensing strategy. Strong candidates will possess an understanding of distribution and licensing models, especially in the context of digital media and emerging technology, and will have experience reviewing, structuring, and drafting content-related agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Structure, draft and negotiate content licenses and distribution agreements with traditional and emerging platforms, with a meaningful focus on digital media – including social media platforms, video syndication partners, content platforms and device manufacturers and other digital outlets
  • Structure, draft and negotiate agreements in connection with the production of shortform content with digital partners and app distribution agreements
  • Support the NFL’s direct-to-consumer products and initiatives, including assisting with drafting promotional and co-marketing agreements, reviewing creative materials, and regularly auditing relevant policies (e.g., terms and conditions, FAQs, “how to” tutorials)
  • Deliver ongoing analysis and day-to-day legal advice in connection with a wide variety of media-related agreements as well as strategic and operational issues
  • Support senior attorneys and other executives in connection with contract negotiations and meetings with League partners and NFL internal stakeholders
  • Provide legal/business affairs support as needed for other NFL projects and initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited 4-year university/college and J.D. from accredited law school
  • 3+ years of experience in a transactional legal role at a top-tier law firm or in-house at a media/entertainment/technology company
  • Strong drafting experience in the media/content/technology space
  • Established proficiency with complex agreements and familiarity with distribution, licensing and direct-to-consumer models
  • Valid membership in good standing in New York state bar

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Employees are required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in the office
  • This role may require additional hours as needed (late nights, weekends)

Salary / Pay Range

This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries or hourly rates that the NFL believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted job in the location(s) specified. The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.

Salary

$195,000 - $215,000 USD
