R&D Engineer at Ansana (medtech startup) – Revolutionizing Surgical Instrument Reprocessing

Maastricht, Netherlands

R&D Engineer - Innovation & Product Development

Location: Maastricht, Netherlands

Ansana isn't just a startup. Our mission is to take on one of the biggest challenges in healthcare: infection control. We're engineering next-generation sterilization technology to make the reprocessing of medical devices dramatically faster, safer, and more sustainable.

If you want to move past theory and apply advanced engineering to real-world healthcare needs, this is your chance to join a team dedicated to making a tangible, life-changing impact.

You'll be a hands-on engineer contributing directly to the design, development, and validation of these innovative systems.

Your Role as R&D Engineer

As the R&D Engineer, your mission is to lead the technical development of new products from conceptual design to realization. You will provide expertise and execution to ensure projects meet requirements, stay on timeline, and turn the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) into a design that can be produced. You will report to the CTO and support R&D and customer-facing activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development: Execute all design and development activities, including simulations, calculations, laboratory work, and testing, to achieve project milestones.
  • Requirements Management: Capture functional and regulatory product requirements from the market and translate them into executable requirement documents.
  • Technology Analysis: Investigate, analyze, and recommend technology choices based on a combination of technical, economical, and safety parameters.
  • Documentation & Certification: Prepare all necessary documentation to obtain the relevant product certifications.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory), external suppliers, and partner customers to support successful product development.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support as required to other functional areas, including Commercial, Service, Operations, and Manufacturing.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with emerging technologies, materials, and methods relevant to ongoing projects.

Who You Are

Experience & Education

  • This is a junior role, suitable for recent graduates or candidates with up to 3–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Entry-level experience in Product Development is key.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electronics, Mechanical, or Software) is required; a Master’s degree in one of these fields is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of experimental design and data analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with prototyping tools and/or simulation software is an advantage.

Languages

  • English: Business fluent (required)
  • Dutch: Business fluent (preferred)

Core Competencies

  • Analytical Mindset: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; able to assess complex situations and identify effective solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Structured approach to work, capable of managing timelines and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Team-oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Growth Mindset: Curious, eager to learn, and open to feedback.
  • Agility: Comfortable challenging the status quo and adapting quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Hands-on & Conceptual Thinking: Able to balance practical execution with conceptual understanding.

We Offer

  • Autonomy & Ownership: Operate with real independence — take ideas from concept to reality and make decisions that move projects forward.
  • High Impact: Your work directly shapes product design, development, and certification — every action has visible results.
  • Senior Exposure: Work side-by-side with senior executives, gaining rare insight and mentorship you won’t find in larger organizations.
  • Tight-Knit Team: Be part of a small, agile team of four, where collaboration is close, and your voice truly matters.
  • Growth & Learning: Manage your own projects and budgets while developing fast in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
  • Startup-competitive remuneration
