Motion Designer, Brand
About us
We're on a mission to make it possible for every person, team, and company to be able to tailor their software to solve any problem and take on any challenge. Computers may be our most powerful tools, but most of us can't build or modify the software we use on them every day. At Notion, we want to change this with focus, design, and craft.
We've been working on this together since 2016, and have customers like Pixar, Mitsubishi, Figma, Plaid, Match Group, and thousands more on this journey with us. Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches worldwide.
Notion is an in-person company, and currently requires its employees to come to the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays & Thursdays) and requests that employees spend the majority of their week in the office (including a third day).
About The Role
This role sits within the Creative Studio, a small team of designers, illustrators, and filmmakers serving creative needs across the company—from launch campaigns to our user conference "Make with Notion." As our Brand Motion Designer, you'll expand our design language through animation and shape video projects from concept to storyboarding to final production. You'll help us transform complex concepts into delightfully simple stories while also serving as a key contributor on the use of motion across both our product and website.
What you'll achieve
- You'll join a small team of designers to help shape our identity through campaigns, videos, social content, and events
- You'll work closely with our video lead to develop branded videos and films, from concept through production
- You'll expand our brand design systems and behaviors through motion design and prototyping
- You'll collaborate across teams to bring new initiatives and products to market using innovative design and storytelling approaches
Skills you'll need to bring
- You have 6–9 years experience in an agency or in-house environment
- You have a Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field
- You have an outstanding portfolio and/or reel of relevant, consumer-facing work that showcases how animation can be used to express a brand's personality and values.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and early-stage ideas; with an ability to turn nebulous prompts into actionable outcomes
- You have a commitment to typographic excellence, and sensitivity to the most minute details
- You are a strong systems-thinker, and a self-starter who brings new ideas and approaches to the table
- You have compelling presentation and communication skills, with a habit of proactive communication
- You have a desire to review work, mentor others, and co-create with partners from different backgrounds and expertises
- You have deep experience with Cinema4D, Adobe Creative Suite (including After Effects), Figma and have worked on product/ui animations.
You have knowledge of tools like Lottie and Rive and prototyping in motion using Principle, or a similar tool
Nice to haves
- Experience in illustration, photography, and other specialist skillsets
- A passion for toolmaking and expanding access to technology
