Entry-Level ABA Behavior Technician (Work with Kids)

Arlington Heights, Illinois, United States
At North Shore Pediatric Therapy, we’re on a mission to empower children with autism and developmental disabilities to reach their fullest potential. But every hero needs a sidekick, and that’s where you come in. If you’re passionate about working with children and want a meaningful career that makes a lasting impact, this role might be your calling.

We are looking for Behavior Therapists ready to step into a role that’s as rewarding as it is challenging. Whether you’re new to the field or already have experience, we provide the tools, training, and support you need to grow into a skilled professional who helps change lives—one milestone at a time.

What’s in it for You?

  • Make a Lasting Impact: Imagine the moment a child speaks their first word, ties their shoes, or learns to say “I did it!”—and knowing you were part of that journey.
  • Be Part of a Mission: Our assent-based care approach focuses on respecting boundaries, building trust, and teaching in ways that align with each child’s strengths and preferences.
  • Embrace the Messiness: Be prepared for the realities of life with children—changing diapers, handling meltdowns, navigating behaviors like elopement—all while maintaining compassion and care. It’s not always neat, but it’s always meaningful.
  • Career Growth Opportunities: Many of our Behavior Therapists have gone on to become BCBAs, OTs, SLPs, and leaders in therapy and support roles. Let this be the first step in your career in pediatric therapy.
  • Earn While You Learn: Within your first 60 days, we’ll help you become a certified RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) at no cost to you. Certification comes with hands-on training and a pay increase.
  • Flexible Scheduling: We know life outside of work matters. Evening (3-8 PM) and Saturday availability are a must, but we’ll collaborate with you to build a schedule that fits.
  • A Team That’s Got Your Back: Join a collaborative, passionate group of therapists and mentors who celebrate successes, big and small, with monthly social events and a supportive work culture.

What Does a Behavior Therapist Do?

As a Behavior Therapist, you’ll work one-on-one with children, following therapy plans created by Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). You’ll be part of an interdisciplinary team that approaches care with respect and empathy. Each day will have its triumphs and challenges, and every moment will contribute to a child’s growth. You’ll:
  • Respect Autonomy: Engage with children in a way that invites their participation and honors their preferences.
  • Be Active: Play on the floor, run, and make therapy fun and engaging while teaching important skills.
  • Handle Challenges with Compassion: Navigate moments of elopement (running away), big emotions, or physical behaviors with patience and understanding, always focusing on safety and progress.
  • Celebrate Successes: Whether it’s a first word, a smile, or a small step forward, you’ll see the lasting impact of your work.

What Makes You a Great Fit?

We’re looking for passionate individuals who:
  • Have experience working with children—especially those with developmental disabilities or special needs.
  • Are comfortable with the messier side of life, including changing diapers and navigating intense emotions.
  • Believe in honoring each child’s individuality and using neuroaffirming approaches to care.
  • Thrive in active, hands-on environments and can stay calm under pressure.
  • Are empathetic, patient, and excited to make learning fun.
  • Are considering careers in ABA therapy, child psychology, education, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or related fields.
  • See this as more than just a job—it’s a stepping stone to their future.
  • Physical Demands: This role requires regular sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting up to 45 lbs. Visual and auditory abilities are necessary for effective communication. The work environment noise level is typically moderate. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities.
If you’ve worked as a teacher’s aide, camp counselor, caregiver, or in any role supporting kids, you already have a great foundation. And if you’re just inspired by our mission, we want to hear from you too.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive Pay: Starting at $19/hour, with increases for experience, education, and certification.
  • Wellness Benefits: Free Calm app and Teladoc subscriptions for you and five friends or family members.
  • Professional Development: Learn from experienced therapists and build the skills to shape your career.
  • Community & Culture: Be part of an inclusive team where open communication and shared values lead the way.
