Tax Controversy Specialist

As a Tax Specialist focused on Compliance, you will play a key role in ensuring that our operations meet all local tax obligations while supporting a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory excellence.
You will work closely with the Tax Manager and other teams across Finance, Accounting, and Legal to prepare tax obligations and review filings, perform reconciliations between accounting and tax records, and support internal and external audits. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly and annual tax returns, including ISR, VAT, withholdings, DIOT, and informative returns (e.g., Informativa de Intereses).
- Review and validate CFDI issuance and timeliness, monitoring compliance with SAT and CNBV reporting obligations.
- Assist in the calculation and reconciliation of deferred taxes, inflationary adjustments, and tax-deductible provisions.
- Maintain and document internal tax controls aligned with SOX and local regulatory requirements.
- Provide support during SAT, CNBV, and external audits, preparing detailed reconciliations and technical explanations.
- Track changes in Mexican tax legislation, assessing impacts to Nu’s business model and compliance obligations.
- Collaborate with Finance, Controlling, and Legal to implement efficient tax processes and automation opportunities.
- Support in Tax Regulatory Reports
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Mexican corporate tax compliance, ideally within the financial sector or regulated entities.
- Strong knowledge of SAT requirements, electronic accounting, and CFDI validation processes.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP) and advanced Excel/Power Query handling.
- Solid understanding of IFRS vs. local tax reconciliations and deferred-tax concepts.
- Intermediate to advanced English proficiency (written and spoken).
- Analytical mindset, strong attention to detail, and a proactive, team-oriented approach.

*Interviewing and onboarding are currently done virtually. From July 2022 forward, teams will have a suggested cadence of visiting the office in which employees go to their Business Unit's (BU) base location. Employees will have an employment contract based on the cities where Nu’s offices are located, considering their country of hire. More details can be shared during your hiring process.
