About the team

The scope will include Mexico Segments, Growth, Operations & the Banking License project. These teams are responsible for the customer segmentation strategy, cross-selling, card logistics, new products and features for Mexico and operational excellence. The mission of these teams is to offer an unparalleled experience to Mexican customers, consistently raising the industry's standards. The business units generate value for Nubank by: (1) increasing PBR share in the Mass Market segment (2) ensuring scale, profitability, and low cost-to-serve, (3) enabling Nubank’s expansion by funding new initiatives, and (4) leading projects that benefit the entire company.

The Engineering Director will have 5 direct reports and will be responsible for the engineering team of about 80 people.

 

About the role
As a cross engineering director you will (1) ensure Engineering maintains a high bar (2) guarantee fluid communication, negotiation and execution of the key projects in a scenario with high dependency of other teams in the company (3) drive cross engineering & productivity initiatives (4) collaborate with your peers to build product and business strategy (5) support 1st and 2nd line engineering managers, and much more.

 

Key responsibilities and Expectations

Win in Mexico, is Nubank's priority #1. The engineering director will work across Mexico BU to advance the business strategy through direct execution and partnership with Global teams.

  • Define the engineering vision and strategy in alignment with the business goals and Global teams.
  • Responsible for driving the overall technical strategies of Mexico BU and collaborating with technical and business leaders across the company to formulate technical, platform and product engineering strategies.
  • Work closely with the Mexico leadership team to build the strategy and goals for the next 5 years plan. 
  • Responsible for prioritizing the goals and deliverables of their teams, ensuring that the teams are always working on the most impactful tasks.
  • Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams to ensure the deliverables, support the development of customer-centric solutions by incorporating feedback into product development.
  • Build a culture of collaboration, accountability and excellence with the engineering team. Driving continuous improvement, optimization processes and fostering a culture of achieving operational standards. 

 

Qualifications

Professional Experience & Education:

  • High Education Degree in Information Technology or Engineering Field (preferred).
  • Experience of +10 years in engineering leadership roles, in which has demonstrated strong technical acumen and a deep understanding of engineering principles and practices. 
  • Proven experience overseeing engineering teams, preferably within B2C product companies.
  • High level of customer empathy, with the ability to align engineering efforts with customer needs and feedback.
  • Strong career background as a Software Developer.

  • Product-centric mindset, with a focus on driving product innovation and delivery.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with proficiency in negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
