Engineering Tech Lead – Taiwan

Taipei, Taiwan

Obsidian Security is the leading SaaS security platform, trusted by global enterprises like Snowflake, T-Mobile, and Algolia. We protect 200+ organizations across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, including many of the world’s largest Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 companies.

Founded in 2017 and backed by top investors like Greylock, Obsidian was built to close a critical gap: securing SaaS apps where business happens—Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and hundreds more. The company does this by offering a complete SaaS security platform to reduce risk, detect and respond to threats, and prevent breaches at the source. Obsidian was built by leaders who redefined endpoint and identity security at CrowdStrike, Okta, Cylance, and Carbon Black. Now, they’re transforming how SaaS is secured.

With AI driving rapid SaaS growth and complexity, agentic AI tools gain privileged access to sensitive data through integrations, creating new risks most security tools miss. Obsidian uniquely detects anomalous OAuth token activity and manages integration risks. Major announcements are on the horizon. Recognizing that SaaS security needs to evolve, Obsidian enables growing organizations to start with a lightweight, prevention-focused browser extension and expand coverage over time.

With global momentum, a growing partner ecosystem including SentinelOne, Databricks, and Google Cloud, and a major fundraise ahead, Obsidian is scaling rapidly toward long-term growth and IPO readiness.

Engineering Tech Lead – Taiwan

About the Role

Obsidian Security is looking for an Engineering Tech Lead to help establish and scale our engineering organization in Taiwan.

You will provide hands-on technical leadership for cloud security products that ingest, process, and analyze large volumes of security data. Your work will span cloud infrastructure, distributed processing pipelines, log analysis, detection systems, and customer-facing API services.

This is a highly influential role for an experienced engineer who can define architecture, lead complex initiatives, and raise engineering standards across teams. You will work closely with the Director of Engineering – Taiwan and engineering, product, security research, and infrastructure leaders around the world.

The ideal candidate combines strong architectural judgment with a practical, delivery-oriented mindset. You remain close to the code, help teams navigate difficult technical decisions, and turn long-term architectural direction into reliable products that deliver measurable customer value.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and evolve the architecture of Obsidian’s cloud security platform, including data ingestion, processing pipelines, detection services, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Lead the technical design and execution of complex, cross-team engineering initiatives.

  • Design systems that process high-volume security telemetry with strong guarantees for scalability, reliability, security, and cost efficiency.

  • Establish clear service boundaries, data contracts, API standards, and integration patterns across the platform.

  • Partner with Detection Engineering and Security Research to turn threat models and detection requirements into scalable production capabilities.

  • Work closely with Site Reliability Engineering to improve observability, capacity planning, resilience, deployment safety, and operational readiness.

  • Evaluate architectural tradeoffs and make pragmatic decisions that balance immediate product needs with long-term platform health.

  • Identify and reduce technical risk, architectural bottlenecks, operational complexity, and accumulated technical debt.

  • Establish engineering standards for system design, code quality, testing, security, documentation, and technical reviews.

  • Mentor senior engineers and technical leads, helping them expand their architectural and organizational impact.

  • Contribute production-quality code, prototypes, design documents, and technical reviews where hands-on involvement has the greatest impact.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams across Taiwan, the US, the UK, and Australia to create a consistent global architecture and engineering culture.

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant software engineering experience, including technical leadership of large-scale or business-critical systems.

  • A strong hands-on background designing and building cloud-native SaaS platforms, distributed systems, or large-scale data products.

  • Deep experience with several of the following:

    • Cloud infrastructure and managed cloud services

    • High-volume data ingestion and stream or batch processing

    • Log collection, normalization, enrichment, and analysis

    • Distributed processing pipelines and event-driven architectures

    • Scalable API and backend service design

    • Data storage, indexing, querying, and lifecycle management

  • Proven ability to lead ambiguous, multi-team technical initiatives from architecture through production delivery.

  • Strong understanding of system reliability, observability, performance, security, and cloud cost management.

  • Ability to diagnose complex problems across application, data, and infrastructure layers.

  • Experience influencing technical direction without relying solely on reporting authority.

  • A record of mentoring senior engineers and improving engineering practices across an organization.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across regions, time zones, functions, and cultures.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cybersecurity, identity security, threat detection, SIEM, observability, or security analytics products.

  • Experience building systems that process security events, audit logs, or other high-volume telemetry.

  • Familiarity with detection engines, rule execution, correlation systems, or behavioral analytics.

  • Experience applying machine learning or generative AI to security or large-scale data analysis.

  • Experience building an engineering organization or platform capability during a period of rapid growth.

  • Experience working in Taiwan or with globally distributed APAC teams.

  • Mandarin proficiency.

What Success Looks Like

  • Taiwan engineering teams have a clear, scalable technical foundation on which to build.

  • Major platform initiatives move from design to production with strong alignment and predictable execution.

  • Data pipelines and services meet demanding goals for scale, reliability, security, and cost.

  • Architectural decisions are well documented, understood, and consistently applied.

  • Senior engineers develop greater technical ownership and successfully lead increasingly complex initiatives.
