Software Quality Assurance Lead

Any location, Santa Clara, California, United States

Join us in pioneering the next generation of nuclear reactors! You'll leverage your software skills alongside nuclear engineers to model, simulate, design, and deploy advanced fission power technology. You will work at the forefront of the nuclear industry, developing novel techniques to reach new levels of efficiency, and resiliency. Come be a part of powering the future with advanced fission power plants to provide clean, reliable, affordable energy.

Position Description:

Oklo is a fast-moving startup where you will be responsible for tackling a wide range of challenges in reactor design and analysis. A nuclear background is not required, but a healthy curiosity and eagerness to learn are essential in this role.

In this role you might:

  • Define and Lead QA practices:

    • Own and iterate on Oklo’s SQA program and procedures, aligning them with regulatory standards and team requirements.

    • Serve as a SQA liaison, mentoring team members and bridging the gap between SQA and development teams.

    • Make quality assurance activities easy and repeatable, driving multiple releases of major products to support engineering milestones.

    • Design and manage the implementation of quality-supporting software infrastructure to facilitate SQA activities.

  • Hands-On Development:

    • Collaborate with software engineers and other engineering teams to integrate QA processes into the software lifecycle.

    • Contribute directly as a developer, writing and reviewing code to ensure the highest quality standards.

Software Engineers you’d collaborate with typically do the following:

  • Transform and optimize the storage and analysis of reactor data and physics results.

  • Design and configure CI/CD pipelines for multiphysics analyses.

  • Build and refine tools that empower reactor engineers to visualize, compare, and evaluate reactor designs.

  • Integrate simulation tools into our analytical pipelines.

  • Implement or enhance physics kernels to solve complex problems or boost performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics, or equivalent software engineering or quality assurance experience.

  • Proficiency in Git and experience with CI/CD.

  • 5+ years of professional experience.

  • Experience with all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing software quality assurance programs and testing, particularly in quality-focused industries.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally as both a QA leader and a hands-on developer.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Prior experience navigating quality assurance standards and frameworks (e.g., NQA-1, NIST, DO-178C, ISO 26262).

  • Background in growing small software organizations.

  • Knowledge of GitLab CI/CD.

  • Fluency in Python and a solid background in software development.

  • Proficiency in Rust.

  • Experience with Typescript/Javascript (especially Svelte).

  • Experience working with large data collection pipelines.

  • Familiarity with optimization, statistics, and design of experiments.

  • Curiosity and passion for nuclear power, closing the nuclear fuel cycle, and sustainable energy generation.
