About the Team:
OKX’s Legal team provides legal advice and guidance to the company across all coverage areas and geographic locations, and supports business growth and development by working with all teams within the company to help them achieve their goals. About the Opportunity:
You will report to the Head of Legal for EMEA based in Dubai, UAE. You will work closely with all members of the Global Legal team and business leaders throughout the company, but will concentrate on supporting OKX's European entity, which is based in Malta.
The right candidate will have a basic understanding of and enthusiastic belief in the cryptocurrency/digital asset space, a minimum of 10 years of experience working for a top law firm or in-house at a fast-paced, brand-name business, and possess strong academic credentials and excellent writing and analytical skills. The ideal candidate should also possess experience working on matters pertaining to financial services, cryptocurrency/digital assets, and/or touching upon financial services and securities laws and regulations ( for example MICA, GDPR, MIFID).

What You’ll Be Doing:

Provide comprehensive legal support across various areas, including product development, HR/employment, corporate governance, contract negotiation, litigation, regulatory matters, compliance, institutional sales, partnerships, and marketing/advertising.

Analyze and assess legal risks associated with both new and existing digital assets, managing the legal aspects of the asset review process.

Oversee and manage civil and regulatory litigation matters, coordinating with and supervising external counsel as required.

Work closely with the compliance and licensing teams to obtain necessary licenses, support fact-finding (e.g., vendor selection), engage with regulators, draft and maintain internal policies, and strengthen the compliance and legal functions.

Collaborate with product and business development teams to support company-wide projects and goals, ensuring legal alignment with business objectives.

Assist with corporate governance matters, including maintaining subsidiaries, tracking filings, drafting board and shareholder meeting materials, and overseeing other corporate matters.

Manage and prioritize legal requests from various business areas, providing clear and strategic legal advice to business leaders.
Key Requirements:

Holds a Doctor of Law (LL.D.) degree, with the necessary advocate warrant to practice law in Malta.

Minimum 10 years of experience in a top-tier law firm or in-house legal team, ideally within the financial services or cryptocurrency sector.

Residency in Malta is required.

Strong relationship with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) and or, in depth familiarity with MFSA’s regulatory framework and processes.

In-depth knowledge and experience with MiCA regulations, with a focus on navigating regulatory requirements and compliance standards (MiCA is a top priority).

Solid understanding of MiFID (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive) regulations, with demonstrated experience in financial regulatory compliance.

Strong knowledge or interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, with a foundational understanding (or a willingness to learn) of the legal and regulatory landscape in these areas.
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working within or advising on the crypto/financial technology sector in Europe.

Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with regulators and industry bodies effectively.
