Field Application Engineer - EVDC Fast Charging

Job Overview

 The Field Application engineer will be responsible for providing application and design support in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region.  Partner with both internal (Product Management, Sales managers, Business Development Manager) and external (Channel partners, Distributors, Design Reps and System Integrators) teams to identify and secure Design IN and Win’s with OmniOn Power products used in EVDC fast charging applications.  

 This position reports to the EMEA Sales Leader and will be remote based in Germany. 

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize knowledge of the OEM power supply marketplace including typical customer requirements, competitor offerings and application trends in the EV charging system applications to provide technical expertise to customers.
  • Coordinate activities with the local sales manager and provide technical guidance to establish sales strategies at the assigned accounts and sub-regions.
  • Support existing and potential customers in a technical sales capacity and provide assistance in identifying and qualification into new opportunities.
  • Customer advocate with the ability to communicate Voice of Customer needs, product gaps and concerns up to the executive management level.
  • Provide training to field sales personnel (reps and distributors) as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with product management to develop the product and technology roadmaps, present them to customers and provide feedback to product management.
  • Maintain knowledge of market trends, competitive actions, product needs and customer base.
  • Create new product technical requirements, work closely with R&D to guide product development, prepare data sheets and other product technical documentation, help develop product presentations and provide technical product support to customers.
  • Understand customer applications to determine new product features and performance needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in solving technical issues and providing high-level customer support and value through technical expertise in battery charging, system integration, power systems and control systems.
  • Position requires the ability to travel a minimum of 40% of the time during a typical workweek. 

  • Fluent in English (both written and oral). 

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience working with customers on embedded applications and in vehicle charging industry
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical specifications
  • Basic knowledge of Power Architecture in DC charging systems and competitor footprint in focusing markets.
  • Experience in offering system level solutions (Cabinets, Shelfs, Rectifiers and Controllers)
  • Fluency in French, Italian or Spanish preferred.
  • Advanced engineering or technical degree
  • High proficiency in using applicable software (i.e., Microsoft Outlook and Office, sales empowerment tools)
  • Experience with CRM tools SalesForce.com
  • Working understanding of the staged gate engineering development process
  • Basic power electronics knowledge for both design and manufacturing including: AC / DC and DC / DC topologies, standard approaches used in analog and power supply circuit design, understanding of how AC / DC and DC / DC products are used in OEM systems, understanding of digital interface protocols (i.e., I2C,CANbus, PMBus) and how they are used in power supplies
  • Understanding of agency requirements that apply to power conversion products, such as safety agency standards, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) standards, input Surge requirements, and harmonics standards. (UL1012 EN61000 systems)
  • Lab skills, including familiarity with using basic lab instruments such multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and spectrum analyzers
  • Ability to understand and implement customer and industry standards
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills with both customers and senior management
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational skills required to meet multi-tasking expectations
  • In-depth knowledge of OEM product lines and markets
  • Ability to work independently, effectively manage time, strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
