Job Overview
The Electrical Component Engineer –will provide Active and Passive Component guidance for Design Team in support of telecommunications, high-computing, datacenter, and industrial applications. Support Component Standardization and evaluate new components in the product development process from concept realization through introduction of product into high volume production. These projects will include New Product Introduction, Direct Material Productivity, resolving customer issues, and sustaining engineering of existing products. This position will be expected to demonstrate leadership globally, working with the team in Shanghai on component subjects through all phases of the component lifecycle.
This role is based at our headquarters in Plano, TX, and reports to the Senior Component Engineering Leader.
Responsibilities
This is a challenging position that calls for strong academic, design and problem solving, and leadership skills.
As the Lead Electrical Component Engineer, you will:
- Responsible for Qualification and approval of Active/Passive components including component characterization and physical analysis.
- Provide support with alternate sourcing, end of life components.
- Provide support with failure mode analysis, addressing quality complaints, working closely with component manufacturers to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Survey/Assess Supplier capabilities, act as key technical liaison with suppliers, co-ordinate technical roadmap discussions.
- Responsible for evaluating new Active/Passive Component technologies and suppliers.
- Responsible for evaluating New Material & Process Technologies
- Understand the Physics of Failure of Active/Passive Components
- Responsible for reviewing and approving new part requests and maintaining integrity of the data in the internal PLM.
- Establish, Maintain & Understand Active/Passive Component Part Attributes to Create Active/Passive Technology and Supplier Strategy with Quarterly Review of Business for Active/Passive Components (Supply Base, Technology and Component Material Analysis)
- Drive Active Component Standardization, Multiple Sources through a Qualified Supply Chain
- Responsible for creating documentation pertaining to the component qualification, component technologies, supplier technology survey etc.
- Provide Component Technical Leadership and Guidance as part of Global Active/Passive Component Commodity
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
- Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project
- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
- Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Basic Qualifications (3 years Experience with Degree in Electrical Engineering/Power Electronics from an accredited University or College)
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics from an accredited university or college with 3 years’ experience in Component Engineering or power electronics design
- Or Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics from an accredited university or college with 1 year experience in Component Engineering or power electronics design
Desired Characteristics:
- Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics and or Computer Science
- PC proficiency - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Experience with Active and Passive Component Testing, Data Sheets
- Understanding of Component Lifecycles and Reliability
- Familiarization with Industry Component Tools: HIS/Accuris, Silicon Experts
- Strong circuit simulation experience (PSpice / Simplis/ SIMetrix)
- Schematic and PWB layout experience (Cadence)
- BOM, change notice and documentation experience (PTC Windchill)
- Knowledge of IPC 9592B - Requirements for Power Conversion Devices for the Computer and Telecommunications Industries
- Ability to apply Six Sigma tools
- An understanding of the principles of test case design, bug reporting and tracking, requirements analysis, and test automation
- Effective multi-tasking skills with ability to prioritize multiple assignments and provide Global Technology Support
- Ability to act as a change agent across cross functional organization (Design, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Supplier and Customer)
- Self-motivated, detail oriented, strong team player
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively
- Ability to prioritize and communicate in a dynamic environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to drive projects to completion
