Job Overview
The PCB Component Engineer works with sourcing commodity and safety teams to address safety agency approvals (UL, CSA, CCC, VDE, TUV and others). The role works directly with safety compliance engineering and must understand all aspects of PCBs impacting safety when working with suppliers and new or alternate PCBs.
This role will also perform component analytics to identify technology trends and design requirements. It will also steer supplier technology to address business goals and objectives. Additionally, the PCB Component Engineer will assess PCB long term reliability through the principles of physics of failure. It will be responsible for creating a PCB benchmark of existing PCB supply base to build future roadmaps, improvements and supplier technology rankings.
This position will be expected to demonstrate leadership globally, working with technology and manufacturing global teams on PCB subjects through all phases of the development cycle (NTI, NPI, Production Release, 2nd Sourcing) customer and factory failures. Driving continuous improvement year over year inside the organization and at our suppliers is key to the role’s success. Assessing alternate PCBs/suppliers and providing a competitive supply base with a demonstrated year over year cost improvements is required. It will address the R&D community with the approved PCB Supply base that best provides the technology at a competitive cost and reliability expectation.

Responsibilities
- Be directly responsible for printed circuit board manufacturing processes and IPC printed board s
- Responsible for qualification and approval of printed circuit board supplier and PCB supplier process technologies used in developing products for the business units (AC/DC rectifiers, controllers, DC/DC power modules and non-isolated point of load converters.
- Provide support with Global PCB sourcing in support of all manufacturing l Perform FAI (First Article Inspection) of PCB in support of R&D projects. Perform PCB Cross Section Analysis, report and document results.
- Provide support with failure mode analysis, addressing quality complaints, working closely with PCB manufacturers to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Survey/Assess PCB Supplier capabilities act as key technical liaison with suppliers, co-ordinate technical roadmap discussions.
- Responsible for evaluating new PCBs & process t Attend PCB MCT meeting and provide support to address business roadmap strategies through PCB attribute data analysis (Power BI attribute collection).
- Responsible for creating documentation pertaining to all aspects of PCB supplier manufacturing/processes, quality and reliability.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial, Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum of 1 years of experience related to Printed Circuit Board Manufacturing.
- Analytical Lab Tool Proficiency Hands on Skills, Maintenance and Analysis of Data coming from: SEM with EDX, XRF, DMA, Ion Chromatography (Anions, Cations & Organics).
- PC proficiency - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Ability to apply Six Sigma tools.
- Ability to drive projects to completion.
- Self-motivated, detail oriented, strong team player.
Desired Characteristics
- Some process engineering or manufacturing engineering experience in PCB and PCBA environment will benefit the candidate.
- Understanding of electro chemical migration and dendritic growth as it relates to long term reliability. (Board Cleanliness).
- Ability to use data science analytics to drive company technology, sourcing and supplier dashboards.
- Understanding and experience in solder joint reliability: Wearout, and Solder Alloys
- Knowledge of IPC Standards.
- Effective multi-tasking skills with ability to prioritize multiple assignments and provide global technology support.
- Some demonstration of forward-looking thinking (IP/Patent Submit).
- Ability to address and think of how to best support business product development while documenting & protecting IP.
- Ability to act as a change agent across cross functional organization (Design, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Supplier and Customer).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
- Ability to prioritize and communicate in a dynamic environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Printed Circuit Board: Laminate PCB Understanding and PCB Technologies, Processes, Surface Finishes and PCB reliability and Material Compliance Requirements (FMD, CMRT/EMRT/AMRT, Halogen Free, RoHS…).
