About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced and visionary Director of Engineering to lead our engineering teams in building scalable, robust, and high-impact products. This role will drive engineering strategy, execution, and team development, ensuring we continue to innovate and lead in the proptech space.

What You'll Need

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven track record of leading large engineering teams and delivering complex, high-impact projects.

  • Strong background in modern software development practices, cloud technologies, and scalable architectures.

  • Experience working in a high-growth, technology-driven company, preferably within proptech, fintech, or marketplace businesses.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and ability to balance technical depth with business priorities.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience with data-driven decision-making and experimentation.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic technical leadership, defining and executing the engineering roadmap in alignment with business objectives.

  • Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and collaboration.

  • Oversee the development and deployment of scalable, high-quality software solutions that enhance user experience and drive business growth.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, data science, and operations teams to deliver innovative solutions.

  • Establish and implement best practices for software development, system architecture, security, and DevOps.

  • Drive engineering excellence through metrics, KPIs, and continuous process improvements.

  • Manage technical debt, ensuring long-term sustainability and scalability of our systems.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies, leveraging them to drive Opendoor’s competitive advantage.

Compensation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several  U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The U.S. pay range for this position is $235,000-294,000 annually. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on your qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process. We also offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, 12 paid holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance, basic life insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
